Singer Billy Cowsill Of Calgary Passes Away
Feb, 19 2006 - 9:20 AM

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - A founding member of the famous Cowsills singing group, Calgarian Billy Cowsill, has died.
Cowsill passed away Saturday at the age of 58.
He moved to Calgary in the late '90s.
Cowsill's brother Barry just died last year in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina - his body wasn't found until four months after the storm.
Billy Cowsill most recently had been part of the local roots music band The Co-dependents.
Cowsill had been ill for the past few years, dealing with hip replacement and back surgery, as well as battling emphysema and osteoporosis.

One of my favorite entertainers!! The Big Man upstairs must have wanted more music!!!

He and his family had a lot of good music, very talented. I had the chance to briefly meet Bill, here in Vancouver, back around 87' or 88'. I just happened to be downtown and came across a free concert at the old Eatons, it was Billy Cowsill. Chatted with him briefly afterwards about the Cowsills and what his family had been up to over the years. He will be missed.

So long Bill

I remember going to this lounge,a cave of a place on Main St. to see him. I couldn't believe a guy that talented was playing this tiny venue--lucky us.
He would usually close with B. Dylan's, Knockin' on Heavens Door-- a friend would say, "if Billy could only write like that." I used to say, "if Dylan could only sing like that." So for Billy---in closing.
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel like I'm knockin' on heavens door. B.Dylan

"Billy they don't like you to be so free." B.Dylan- Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid
