It looks that Bill C11 passed the senate and will signed as law soon.
The Canadian government would filter what you can watch on Youtube, especially most of the content classified as non Canadian.
Should we use VPN to start watching Youtube after they start enforcing this law? It's already frustrating to see very limited content on Canadian Netflix, now if they start going after youtube and other providers that would be the only option left.
With this law, I'm feeling like I live in China where people are using VPN to access medias blocked by their government.

Yah definitely might want to suggest which VPN's you'll be using as well.

I dont use them but I looked into them in the past.. Just didnt want to start adding additional costs that didnt require it...

I think it really depends on who your content creators / channels you watch / sub too , and whether or not they'll be blocked out by this bill C-11.

When I find a VPN i like I'll update here as well since i used to torrent / download but never bothered with VPNS...

VPN probably won't help. Earlier this year I have used VPN to watch Netflix while overseas. The available content was much, much reduced from what it was in Canada. I believe it's because I have a Canadian account, and most content available in Canada is not available overseas.

You might want to take the time to familiarize yourself with what the Bill actually does and why it just might be in the best interest of Canadian Content Providers. This bill is very similar to the Current Broadcast Regulation and CanCon that has been around for as long as I can remember.

Conspiracy theorists would have you believe the government is going after your rights, or the US will impose a strict retaliatory response, both of which have been denied or deemed very unlikely. The root of the bill is to protect the rights of Canadians and content providers, separating us as a unique country and not the Americans BITCH! Just my 2 cents worth.

Canadian VPN's

You might try to setup a separate US account, when connected to the VPN, using a separate email address. It worked for me with Paramount+ US

I recall when I tried to watch some movies on European streaming websites. I tried to use a VPN and open an account but when I tried to make a payment, I got an error message saying they only accept credit cards issued in European union ( or in the UK for another UK website).
Do they all check your location based also on your credit card number?

Remember when conspiracy theorists said when the pandemic started that vaccine passports will be used to access restaurants , pubs and concerts and in even Grocery stores ( in some provinces Walmart/Costco required vaccine passports) they were mocked.

Sask. game developer concerned industry will be affected by Bill C-11

“If we do this to protect Canadian markets, and exclude other countries’ creators, why wouldn’t other countries react and do the same thing to us. That’s going to hurt Canada more than it helps.”

Hutchence said that while the legislation may result in more content views from Canadians, “99 per cent” of his clients are international.

“If I lose 10 per cent of the Chinese market, and the U.S. market, and the Indian market, this is worth huge amounts to our business and industry,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the government seems to be taking a very isolationist-level view on this, thinking Canada acts in its own world and it simply doesn’t. This is something that could severely risk the ability of our industry to succeed.”

They can detect you're using a VPN (as in my case streaming Netflix from overseas), and/or they know it's a CAD credit card, and/or from your billing address.

They didn't ask for billing address, but they detected it was a Canadian credit card ( not issued in European Union) just from the number.

I setup a US bank account and use a Mastercard Interac Card issued by that bank.
