moore didn't deserve a broken neck, but he did put naslund out of commission, and did cost the canucks a few playoff games without bert in the line up and nazzie playing injured and bert is now painted with a pretty tainted brush regarding his actions.

and funny enough, you don't see moore suing colorado for not resigning him ... the raptors traded for alonzo mourning and he's almost dead!

pro sports ... can't live with it ... living fine without it!!!

If Moore's career is finished and he is having as much physical and emotional problems as reported this was a totally inappropriate sentence. The fact Bertuzzi did it to "avenge" his friend's injury makes it even worse. Like Naslund isn't a grown man who can fight his own battles? Oh. I know the hockey code, but Bertuzzi isn't supposed to be an enforcer and his hit was another of his long line of selfish acts. I hope Moore takes civil action. In so many criminal cases justice is not served and civil action seems the only way to extract a measure of justice. I know many people who are red-neck conservative regarding crime and punishment, but when it comes to their favourite athlete suddenly they become flaming liberals. Weird.

Valid point BUT this wasnt a fight. It was a sucker punch from ehind. An assault. It wasnt even a heat of the moment occurence. It was definetely premeditated.

You have to draw the line somewhere. What if he swung his stick like a bat at Moore's head and knocked him senseless? Is that still part of the game?
What if he knocked Moore down and then kicked him in the head with his skate, knocking him out and slashing his throat? Is that still part of the game.

This action was the perfect place to draw the line at. I dont see how you can say it isnt. If this had been a face-to-face fight and then Bertuzzi knocked him out with punch and Moore fell to the ice and hurt his neck on the fall, then I could see you wanting to debate if it belonged in the courts.

Another victim of the NHLs' Dumb Instigator Rule. This would have all been done and over with if this rule was not in place.
that's highly illogical - care to elaborate

An instigator of an altercation shall be a player who by his actions or demeanor demonstrates any/some of the following criteria: distance traveled; gloves off first; first punch thrown; menacing attitude or posture; verbal instigation or threats; conduct in retaliation to a prior game incident.

An altercation is a situation involving two players, with at least one to be penalized.

(a) A major shall be imposed on any player who fights.

A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation shall be assessed an instigating minor penalty, a major for fighting and a ten minute misconduct.

A player who is assessed a major and a game misconduct for being an instigator/aggressor of an altercation will have this recorded as an instigator of an altercation for statistical and suspension purposes.

If the same player is deemed to be the instigator of a second altercation in the same game, he shall be assessed an instigating minor penalty, a major for fighting and a game misconduct.

A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation for the third time in one Regular Season shall be assessed a minor penalty (instigating), a major (fighting) and a game imsconduct. He subsequently shall be suspended for the next two Regular Season games of his Team. For the fourth instigator penalty in the same Regular Season, the player will be suspended for the next four games of his Team. For the fifth instigator penalty in the same Regular Season, the player will be suspended for the next six games of his Team.

If a player penalized as an instigator of an altercation is wearing a face shield, he shall be assessed an additional Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty.

if there was no instigator rule, moore would have had his ass kicked the nite the original hit on naslund happened, possibly even in the moments after the hit.

to go even further, the hit on naslund and other such cheap shots would get eliminated cuz little pukes would know theyd get their ass kicked by goons if they did anything.

Sorry, my passion for the game does not extend to include ass kicking and goons as a part of real hockey. That the instigator rules may hold in check, to whatever degree, ass kicking goons…

Moore isn’t a big guy – he wasn’t penalized for his hit on Naslund --- but to you he’s a “little puke” --- because???

But I’ll play – let’s walk through your scenario. Seems the instigator rule held Bertuzzi in check when Naslund was first hit – rather than deal with it at that point Bertuzzi, with some 3 weeks of premeditation, waited for his chance during the next head-to-head game… but wouldn’t the instigator rule still be in effect for that game – LOL. So Bertuzzi was initially wary of the instigator rule in the first game circumstance, but thought nothing of instigating his action against Moore in the second game circumstance. Go figure.

But I’m heartened to realize you’ve properly classed Bertuzzi as one of those ass kicking goons – oh wait, sorry, one of those “power forward” ass kicking goons – duh!

Far as I'm concerned I hope this Bertuzzie is happy whit his actions and all the shit and hassle he caused himself. They should tell the guy to pack up his shit and get the fukk out.

I agree the sport is rough, but not vengeful. Nice message to send to the kids Bert ya fukkin moron. I hope that other dude that got hit sues Bert for all he's worth, and then when Bert is standing in the welfare office maybe he will realize, "yah maybe it wasn't such a good idea"

The NHL and the justice system need to make an example of this guy that poor sprtsmanship to that extent is not tollerated in this game anymore.

As far as I'm concerned, this whole thing should never gotten into the criminal justice system. As a hockey player, Steve Moore knew that he was subject to a higher level of violent conduct than would be tolerated on the streets. He knew this and still chose to play professional hockey and receive all the benefits that such a career includes. Consent exists in this case, end of discussion. I know...all of you are now saying that he didn't consent to what you consider to be an act that was too far out of the bounds of what would be considered likely in a hockey game. To that I say 'Bullshit!' What Bert did has never been that far from the norm in hockey. The only reason that this has gone on for so long is that Steve Moore has a glass jaw. Such things, to a slightly lesser extent, happen all the time in hockey. Had five other players not piled on after the punch, Steve Moore probably walks away from it all with nothing more than a slight concussion. All the whining that he is now doing is pathetic. He broke the code of the sport he has played his whole life. Even if he sticks with the position that his hit on Naslund was fair, he has to accept that the code of the sport requires him to answer for his actions. Has he had any kind of balls, he would have fought Brad May or Todd Bertuzzi that very night and the whole affair would have been finished. Instead, he ran like hell whenever either of those two were on the ice and picked a fight with five foot nothing Matt Cooke instead. He's a pussy who wouldn't have lasted long in the NHL either way. He'll sue Bert and he'll get a lot of money for his injuries, but for fuck's sake, spare us all the whiney bullshit he's putting out there in the media. He's as much to blame for his predicament as anyone else. There are enough real criminals in this city that we don't need to be wasting our time and resources on this case. Bert has now pleaded guilty and received the same sentence that anyone with a spotless criminal record who comitted an isolated criminal act would receive for a first offense. It's time to let it lie.

You have a jaded disjointed view of what hockey is and has been about – clean open ice hits are a recognized part of hockey --- broken necks ala sucker punches are not a form of any hockey I’ve ever played or watched.

Seems all Moore has said/done:
- he won't pursue civil action if doctor's advise he can still play hockey
- he wished, by his legal right, that he could have personally delivered his victim impact statement
Where’s the whining?

Slowly, maybe another generation or two, the Bertuzzi like Neanderthals will be out of hockey and the game will be that much better for it.

Ass kicking and goons have been a part of real hockey for 90 years. The idea of hockey without fighting was just to make it palatable for US tv networks it was never abouit anything more than making money. If Rocket Richard heard you talking about your version of real hockey he'd tear you a new one.

Yes, unfortunately ass kicking goons have been a part of hockey --- they are not what real hockey is about. If you want fights try the WWF – all the magic you could hope for.

Pro Wrestling and your version of "Real Hockey" have one thing in common: neither one is based in reality.

Care to make your case for fighting in hockey? What does it add to the game?
