Beyond disgusting

When I was in my early twenties I rented apartments and houses. The apartments were not so terribly fancy, at least 20 years old, but they were clean and well maintained.

Today? I am appalled at the slovenly behaviour of people. I cannot imagine letting my dog out to pee in the hall...and this is in an expensive, brand new, modern apartment building....that is just beyond disgusting!!

Yet, it happens often I am told by the lady on her knees scrubbing at the new spots in the hall carpet.

Really!

Quite a few of my friends live in 'pet friendly' rental places. The ones that rent houses, or basements that do, or dont own pets, tend to take better care of the place. The ones that live in apartments or rented out/owned condos are filthy and disgusting. Owners think that since they bought into the property, they can let their pets run freely without a care in the world cause the strata fee's pay for it all. I even seen one owner let his dog take a dump in the outdoor pool, and when I confronted him, he told me to fuck off as I was a visitor and not the owner or management. For that reason, i'm starting to look at actual houses rather then condos when I decide to buy a place. On top of that, I see alot of cigarette butts everywhere in the hallway and stairs despite there being ash trays placed almost everywhere. I can see some serious devaluation going on in those places, and I can also see a fire hazard.

I honestly don't see why they let pets in these places when they know stuff like this happens all the time. Maybe when someone higher up notices all the expenses going into the sanitation department, they will put an end to it.

Pardon me for a moment while I am distracted by that stunning photo, Odette!

Yes, accidents happen. Almost all residents of the building have dogs and this problem only started recently.

These are not the isolated 'spots' of accidents...the entire hallways is now strewn with them.

The thing about staining is that the odour remains deep within the underlay of the carpet and attracts the dog to use that spot (or one nearby) again.

My dog was trained to use a specific area of the garden and I had a plastic garbage can sunk into the ground, open bottom, with composting 'stuff' in to put the droppings...it never smelled.

In an apartment it would be tricky to replicate that but I would think regular walks and the pee pad would eliminate problems.

The condo strata has issued new rules about dog owning now...sad for those who are responsible pet owners.
