I also have to add Nazareth, maybe not underated but a damm good band anyways. Though I don't think they are in the hall of fame yet. Holy Roller is just a great song.

Golden Earring, they were huge in Europe but never really caught on after there first album Moontan.

Love The Band also. Both "The Last Waltz" and the much more recent film "Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band" are required watching if you are a fan also.

I'm not sure if these bands would be considered 'underrated', but don't get any airtime anymore, and I just love them.

Little River Band.
Cool Change and Lady are some of my favourites.
