Plant yourself at the bar, with a few empty seats on either side of you.
Do you look like a middle-aged, balding, well-fed, well-dressed, overspending out-of-towner?
"Can you look" like an overspending out-of-towner? Put on some dorky glasses, but a svelte watch.
Place that nice flashy "convention" paraphenelia next to you, and a few tourist Vancouver brochures.

P88 - you say that like it is a bad thing. Everytime I travel that is exactly what I wear to the bar, well except for the watch.
It works every time. BTW the convention stuff and the tourist guide doesn't even need to be from the town you are in. Find some light weight stuff with a flashy cover and you can use it over and over agin.
