Best Pay As You Go Phone Deal?

My situation is a little unique, since I travel to Vancouver infrequently from the States. I'd like to purchase a pay as you go phone and plan so that, the couple of times a year when I'm up there, I have an inexpensive phone I can use for hobbying. What's the best plan?

In the States, it turns out that T-Mobile has the best deal. If you buy the plan for one year it costs about $100 and the minutes don't keep expiring. That way, I never have to worry about reupping my plan ever few weeks/months. Although technically the operating company stores are supposed to ask for ID, T-Mobile store clerks seldom do when issuing pay as you go plans.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the 7-11 Speakout is ideal for you. Cheap phone (you can even buy a $10 SIM card and use any unlocked GSM phone). Only $1.25/mo for a 911 fee. The minutes last for a year, even if you only put on $25. Airtime is 25 cents/min.

Note: Current promo gives you $20 off any phone when you buy a $50 airtime voucher. It makes the basic phone only $19
