What makes a great movie?

Really it will be what interest each of us individually. I love science fiction .. and will always .. watch that first . even a bad one .
On of my all time favorites .. i Alien.. and Aliens. the sequel is even better for story. hated Alien 3.. and Alien .Resurrection.. was great .. but that alien baby at the end .was creepy. a walking dolphin.. ahhhhhh
But then again it what i like .. some one else .. likes romance .. or drama.. or any thing with Al Pacino in it ..So how do you pick the best movie...
And who can remember them all... All i see mentioned here .. is from the last 25 years or so .. and most are from the last 10 or 15 years .. There are more then 100,000 movies out there.. Many of them i would watch again if they wee on TV.. But i could not remember them if you asked me to name them off..
so meny movies are great on some level .. and fall down in other areas.

but you still enjoy watching them.

dumb question
Kalifornia is one of the best movies I have seen. I cant think of the Actresses name off the top of my head (Brad Pitt's girlfriend in that movie), but Holy Shit she did a fantastic job in that movie. I luved it. They type of somewhat Autistic Character that she had to play in the movie is a hard role. She was Brilliant. A good movie!
I'd do a search on google but i be lazy.:p .. but i think it is the same girl in cape fear isn't she?? another good movie... I also saw someone mention American history X which is another great one.
