Best City

GreatGatsby

All around good guy...
What's the best city east of the Rockies? Also, is Calgary better or is Edmonton?

We all know that Vancouver's been at the top of the list for the last several years, but if you can't live in Vancouver (one of the best cities in the world to live in), which city would you pick and why?

:)

Calgary was rated #1 city in North America for its Parks & Recreation, but for streets, I'm sure it rates at the bottem. You can't go 2 fucking blocks without road construction or a detour.
Oh well... As long as we have a great (cough cough shitty cough) hockey team.

I find it funny, about 5 years ago Calgary was rated #1 city for being the cleanest in the "world" but looking around day after day at garbage and shit stroon all over the roads and ground I find it really hard to believe. And IMO who the hell pay's for these stupid polls and servey's anyways...oh wait or is that us, the tax payers?....
And to answer the ? at hand, if I had to pick what city, Windsor and Detroit, did it once, I'll do it again!

Calgary is living with the legacy of having Al Do-nothing as mayor for too many years, with a city that is the fastest growing on the continent he prided himself on not raising taxes, of course the result was the infrastructure. Calgary has to catch up and ungodly traffic is the result. It will pass...be patient.

On the world stage, Calgary was picked along with Brisbane Aus. as emerging economic powerhouses and both are in the top 10 for quality of life.

I would have taken your Do-nothing over Jan Reimer anytime. She and her gaggle of lefty loonies succeeded in turning Edmonton into a laughing-stock, alienating the city from provincial and federal politicians, and driving companies and wealth out of town. Although E-town is booming like mad these days, it still recovering from the legacy of her Fawlty Towers of a City Hall. That said, both cities were immersed in dire economic times during the 80s and 90s so blame can't be foisted on either mayor - it is the current oil boom that made both burgs re-blossom and come alive again. I'd live in either Alberta city since they are similar in more ways than people care to admit, although E-town has the better pooning scene.
