best cellphone plan i have seen so far

So I see this new company Mobilicity http://www.mobilicity.ca/ and see they have a $40 plan that includes almost everything voice and data plan.

Also notice that Wind http://www.windmobile.ca/ have also put out a plan form what i can tell matches the Mobilicity plan... have to sign up by Dec 24, 2010

Can anyone recommend which one is better and if there are any differences in the plans that I can not see?

I have been contemplating getting that plan as my second phone. Pay as you go sucks ass. My gf has Wind, and our calls drop from her end.

It's been a monopoly here until recently. We've been paying WAYYYY too much here in Canada, and it's about time.

I am planning to go with Mobilicity as long as North Van coverage is good. It looks good out to Hope-ish if I remember correctly from the site. Pretty typical not to have cell coverage past that.

So, I have been with Rogers on a across Canada Plan 800 minutes per month with a package for my North American calls, enhanced caller ID and Voice Mail + 6 GB of data for a smart phone.

$200 per month incl all the taxes and fees.

I hate paying that much but can not afford not to have service if I am in Regina, Southern Alberta, Southern California or anywhere on the East Coast USA or Montreal or Toronto.

You people with Wind etc. Have you travelled outside of a "Wind" Zone and what did you experience.

I am thinking of just picking up a Wind Phone and trying it out here in Vancouver.

Sure would like to hear travellers experiences. with the new smaller networks.

I'm really eyeballing Mobilicity's $25/month voice plan, with the +$10/month unlimited data plan..... and that Google Nexus One handset is pretty slick. A colleague at work has one, and I have serious phone-envy.

It looks like chatr and mobilicity have the same coverage area. Looking at the rate plans, mobilicity seems to have more included in it's most expensive rate plan.

I kept a eye on the reception,service, etc of both wind and mobilicity for a few months now. I switched over to wind cause im a believer now. Had friends who had shitty reception cause they signed up earlier when wind launched. I signed up for the 40.00 plan and noticed the data speed and connection is better than mobilicity(i think mobilicity will catch up very soon though). I have no regrets the reception is awesome and they expanded and not as much wind away zones.

im putting my phone into my laptop and getting free north america calling. I know other cell companies people get a bill for 5k or more if they are using the their phone/laptop to surf the net but customer support encourage it with no extra cost.

Can anyone recommend which one is better and if there are any differences in the plans that I can not see?

Here's a coverage map and mobilicity covers part of surrey. Read somewhere on winds site that they added more towers and more coverage in surrey,whistler etc. I wouldnt go with wind or mobiliicity if i live over in surrey or whiterock though. The reception is very good where im living right now and i rarely go out to white rock or surrey.

i've stuck with fido for a long time b/c no other carrier could beat my non-contract deal. plus i text like a whore so the unlimited incoming/outgoing kept me there. with my berry data plan, it works out to about roughly $60/month.

but this mobilicity promotion has me intrigued. but one thing they don't mention is how much data is available in their berry plan. as well, how long do u get to stay on that $40/month price and if call forwarding is available. plus, i'm a lil suspect on their overall coverage at the moment.

but the one plus if i do go with them is my t-mobile bold 9700 will finally get to work on 3g. fido doesn't operate on the same frequency as american phones, so have been stuck with edge. but hey, the phone was free so obviously that's why i use it. lol.

probably gonna head into the mobilicity retailer tomorrow and get more info.

Im told it's unlimited data from both wind and mobilicity. But if you go over a certain amount of data ....things slow down a little with both mobilicity/wind. With mobilicity the internet is the shits and people are getting out and going to wind. Im sure they will fix the situation with the internet very soon.

ok so after talking in person with both mobilicity reps and wind reps today... AND spending about 3 hours reading through all the threads on both companies on howard forums, this is what it basically comes down to. they have identical plans in regards to price ($40/month) and what's available (caller id, vm, texting, etc).

wind - good call quality in gva (questionable at times outside gva), faster data, wider coverage (rapidly growing)
mobilicity - excellent call quality in gva (sometimes spotty in tri-cities), throttled data (limited), smaller coverage (but slowly growing)

one thing that did stick out to me though was when i asked the mobi rep about their future expansion plans. said it all depends if the company sees that people in that area want it. from what i read on hofo, looks like mobi will be more of a local carrier. whereas with wind, they're ever growing and look like they may be on their way to becoming a national carrier like the big 3 over the next few years.

so since i text and use data like a whore, it's gonna be wind for me. just can't pass up this deal. plus, if it really sucks balls i can always just switch back to fido since i'm not on a contract anyway. lol.

It's still my first week of using wind and the data is very fast(that's cause i dont download much) just surfing the net and youtube,youporn,etc. For some reason i cant get a connection when i shop at some london drugs. Not sure why but im told they have bad reception if you are standing near their wind tower. I feel the same as you ....if the company sucks i'll just leave. So far winds been good to me....they messed up porting my number and took longer than expected. Wind gives me a free month cause i had problems porting the number(when did the big 3 ever give anything free away??).

so since i text and use data like a whore, it's gonna be wind for me. just can't pass up this deal. plus, if it really sucks balls i can always just switch back to fido since i'm not on a contract anyway. lol.

For some reason i cant get a connection when i shop at some london drugs.

a buddy of mine used to work there, said it was a death trap at times for cell phones. something about all the concrete. so it's not just u. lol.

i'm gonna head into wind tomorrow and get the ball rolling about porting over my number. i've never done contracts, even with the big 3, so i have no quams about going elsewhere if i'm not satisfied.

So is that unlimited data? Cause what you mention doesnt sound all that great. Chatr(rogers) has a talk anytime in canada for ...like 45.00 for talk anytime in canada,voicemail,etc. I heard chatr will have a data package very soon also.

Well I hpoe you are happy with that....I changed my plan with Wind today...for $40 a month I get unlimited Canada/USA calling/unlimited data/unlimited global texting...with no contract....no system access fee...no 911 fee.

3 months ago I was paying rogers $160 a month for 300 anytime minutes and free evenings/weekends with caller ID and 40 megs of data....all I can say is I am happy I dropped rogers.

I just checked. Mobilicity may only be working on the UMTS 1700 frequency. Not sure if UMTS 2100 works 'cause a friend told me iphone 4 not work with the network.

Seriously? I wish you got their name for me.

My total bill for Rogers for business each month is $1000. I have had significant service issues with Rogers and their CSR's have been trained to say NO. My requests were not out of bounds either based upon how much I pay them each month.

The funny thing is I sell to their network and some of their people just shrug and say, sorry you have to deal with them. They are notorious for being Dicks.
