Best Bakery

Following the best ice cream thread, let’s root out the best bakeries in the area.

My current favourite is Breka bakery, one on W. 4th and another on Fraser. Everything they make is excellent. Great donuts, breads and cake. Recently had their chocolate pistachio ganache cake and it was awesome.

So... nothing to add, I guess.

Edit: on second thought, if we're also talking cakes I vote for Sweet Obsession too.

If it's for great looking and tasting deserts, it's Max's Deli on Oak. Seriously some are works of art that you think twice about biting into. (Their food is awesome too. If VPD eat there, you know it's good)


For great breads, vegan friendly stuff and awesome cookies; Artisian Bakery on Venables near Commercial is my regular bakery. Their Ginger cookie wins in my book.

Thomas Haas has some great almond croissants and cake. The ones mentioned above are good too. Also finding a smaller local bakery can usually be a nice source of baked goods.

All the bakeries listed are Vancouver based. How about the burbs, any good ones out there?

On the island you can't beat Sidney bakery. Best glazed donuts ever! If you try to go there in the afternoon to get some, they'll be sold out.

There is also a Breka on Howe Street! Their Dulce De Leche doughnuts are a thing of beauty & a treat for the tastebuds...

Last time I was at Guildford Mall, I managed to hit the St Germain bakery just as the BBQ pork buns were coming out of the oven...I can't speak to anything else they bake, but the buns were PERFECTION.
