I just heard about this app from another SP (hence the phone number change), and I thought I should share it. It's called "TextMe" and it's free.

Basically, you get the app, and it generates a new phone number that you can use from your smart phone, but without giving away your personal number. I find it really great when I'm out in a public setting or with friends who don't know I work, and I don't want to be seen using two different phones. It's also way better when you're like me, and your business phone was a flip phone, and you cannot for the life of you remember how to use T9 texting anymore

I've used it for a while and it's pretty flakey as texts will fail and call quality is pretty terrible.

It works best with high speed Wifi. Using the texting part now and no problems. If anyone else has a better app that they can recommend please let us know.

Texted an SP using "Pinger"

I didnt realize but at the end of the message it put "My real name on Pinger". I didnt see this until I had already texted a few SPs. Things did not end well.

Thanks but no thanks to that! Real numbers only here, no google talk, Skype, calling cards etc
It is a great idea thanks for the share though, Cameron.

Personally, part of my security protocol is to be able to call a client back. So it may work for inquires, but it does not work for booking an appointment.

While we are in the subject of apps though, the one I find works best for me in the business is Mr. Number. He and I are having a secret love affair........

Why would it not end well? You can just say it was a fake real name can't you?

Always love to share information my dear! xx

Also as a note, the contacts are saved (using "link contact" option) to your contact book for ladies. So there is a tiny downside to it, but if you're not saving information it doesn't matter.

You can purchase credits for a reasonable price for voice calls, but I choose to use text only as I'm usually running around and it's awkward discussing services while checking out at the grocery store!

Actually the ap is totally free. If you can muster the desire to watch a couple adverts you get free time. How much time does one need if you're just making a couple confirmation calls? All you have to do is log out when you're not using it and you won't be interrupted with calls or texts. Perfect for discretion I think.

TextME and TextPlus are almost identical platforms. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

TextMe :

Pros - Texts are stored on the phones memory within the ap. That means it stores practically an unlimited amount of convos and texts.

Cons - Because it's stored on the phone, it doesn't have the cross functionality of TextPlus which I'll explain below. Sending pictures never works, unless it's to another TextMe user.

TextPlus :

Pros - The cross ap functionality. It works fairly close to how iMessage works. The conversations and texts follow you from device to device. If I sign in to my account with my iPad, then later sign in to the same account with my iPhone, the conversations and texts move with me per se. You can't do this with TextMe.

Cons - Because of the cross device function, data is stored on their servers as opposed to the phone. What this means is that there is generally a cap of keeping only the last 50 convos, and inasmuch, only the last 50-60 lines of texts within a given convo. TextMe keeps everything, similar to what a sim card used to do.
This makes searching more difficult using TextPlus but the trade-off of multi-device functionality is awesome.

Both can be laggy at times but considering it's free, I'll take it!
