any comments on what's good and what's not? looking at a sears-o-pedic at a very good price ...

looked at the stuff at other stores, comparably priced were not so good ... and the decent ones at places like sleep country were running twice as much (or more).

oh yeah, price point under a grand if you have recommendations.

thanks.

why buy a mattress anywhere else.....

As much as I dislike their commercials IMO you can't go wrong with Sleep Country Canada. Have bought two beds there in the past 5 years....price was good, delivered ASAP, staff knew their shit.

As much as I dislike the price fixing schemes in the industry, I actually bought mine at Sleep Country about 5 years ago as well... The lucky ladies who've had the privilege of not only sleeping but f$cking on it as well all say it's one of the most comfy beds they've experienced... (evil grin)

their service was excellent and the lady knew her sh$t.... price... well, let's just say it was "approximately fair."

One of my pet peeves is that these places all say they will "price match"... but in reality, it's a good marketing scheme... the same company makes the beds for the various retailers but comes up with slightly different names for them and minor differences... therefore, there is really nothing to "compare to" and no price matching ever really gets done... it's something people buy for the long term... not exactly a "consumable" so they need to make their money on the sale... and make their money they do... unless you have some connections on the inside... you're basically gonna pay close to full retail for a bed...

PS I actually like their catchy slogan.... "sleep country CA NA DA... why buy a mattress AN - Y - WHERE ELSE???" :D

PPS To Lonely Ghost... Haven't shopped for beds in a while, but I don't think 1 grand will get you much (hopefully I'm wrong and you can score a killer deal :)). This is a bed... something u spend 8 hours a day in every day... possibly more if you're f$cking hot babes :). IMMO, get the best you can afford... it will be money well spent. Like I say, "never settle for 2nd best."

I bought a mattress set at Sears a year ago, pillow top, memory coil, cost about $1200 if I remember correcly. Was a special, apparently made for Sears by Sealy or something. I think Sears gives very competitive pricing especially if you can buy it during one of their periodic special sales periods.

Don't forget to buy it on your Sears card, and collect the points!

Costco. Use it for ten years, and return it saying you are not satisfied, and then upgrade to a new one. Seen it done many times.
Return it after 10 years????   :D

We'll have to call that "pulling a Maury" :).

When I moved away from home many moons ago I was stunned how much beds cost. I remember mom & dad buying beds for us kids every 8 years or so but had it in my head that I could get away with spending ~$600 for a really good matress/boxspring. Wrong! Was disgusted that for the entry level with pillow top (a must have IMO) you'd have to spend >$1000. Ended up dropping $2500

Yeah the pillow top adds a lot... I went in wanting to spend $1000... but after my gf and I test f$cked I mean slept on every mattress, we ended up with the top of the line one at $5000  DOH! Honestly though... 5 years later... I can say I am very happy with my purchase and it was money well spent... I get a good night's f$ck I mean rest every night and it still looks like new except for all the cum stains that got through the sheets   ... should last another 5-15 years.

AAAHHH Beds!!!

I bought mine at Ikea of all places a few years ago. It is only a twin. Small, but then I can get closer to whom ever I have with me. I visited some SP's with really great beds. Maybe we should add it to a review.

Sleep is very important, it makes your day if you get a good night sleep.
I find it also adds to the enjoyment of visiting or having that great time with that SP you are seeing.

OK I usually don't post but I have to chime in here as I work in the bedding industry ( not going to say where )

Memory foam, as much as people love it, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Studies have shown that after about 6 years they start to deteriorate. Also a problem is heat retention. because they have to use body heat to conform they also retain that heat. Not good if you don't like to be warm in the middle of the night. Also have you tried rolling around in one when it has conformed? it's like trying to roll uphill.

Pocket coil mattresses are excellent when it comes to side or front sleepers. because they conform better around the body they give better support then traditional mattresses, plus they have no motion transfer. not good for back sleepers though as many find them too "mushy"

Telelay latex is an excellent choice ( get your minds out of the gutter people, not that kind of latex ). Reacts a lot like memory foam, conforming around your body. unlike memory foam though they react instantaneously and do not retain heat. just the opposite. they take heat and moisture away from the body. expensive though ( queen size @ 3000 )

When it all boils right down to it though the best mattress in the world is one that you are comfortable in. Wether you pay 800 or 8000 for it. If you are comfortable and get a good night sleep w/o tossing and turning and wake up with no pain it's a good mattress. that's why wherever you buy it make sure you get some kind of sleep satisfaction. Most places offer 90 days, some like Sleep Country offers 120 I believe and The Brick offers 180 nights if I am corrct.

As always though YMMV.

I bought a Sealy fom Sleep Country couple of years ago and it's not sagging in various spots. I am planning to replace it with a Tempur mattress but the lack of bounce in memory foam mattress really sucks when having sex on it.

Where can I check out some talalay latex mattresses? I usually sleep on my back and I do find my pocket coil mattress a bit on the soft side even when it was brand new.
