Yap... something more that is atomated
.. No wonder they want every one to have smart meter

. A friend had there power turned off . for 90 bucks.. in fact they payed . this morning at 9 and power was turned off. at 1 in the afternoon.. because they did not phone in..
The fact is the whole process is computerized.. Even though they gave a BS story that some one had to come out to do it... 10 min after they confermed they pay ..the power was back on.. On top of that BCHydro will charge a reconect fee for fliping a switch..

When you say that they didn't pay the 90$, you know that everybody has 30 days to pay it. They don't just cut it off.
As a matter a fact I think once in my life I was late by not sure how many days and all they did was charged me interest on my amount.
I decided that I will always pay in on time like my credit cards.

I don't think they would cut it off on a whim if you had a history of paying on time and were a little late for some reason one month. They will just charge interest because they know that sometimes happens.

The people they have little tolerance for are the habitual late payers or those who go deep into arrears. Or if your credit rating is in the pits. People they have no reason to give any slack to.

Like allways i guess you ars missing the point...
They dont send any one to cut it off. all they do is punch in a command . but they still charge 55 to reconect
You ow 90 and pay another 55 to connect as a penalty. and they dont have to do any work.

Oh well it will never effect any of you .

Sorry hun. People seem less surprised about the smart meter thing than they do about your friend paying their bill on time.

How do you know what they need to do? Or how long it takes?

Dude, if you don't pay your cell phone bill/internet/cable, no one comes over to your house to switch off your phone/computer/TV, it's done at the provider's location and yes, you have to pay a reconnection fee. How is Hydro any different? Your friends need to stay on top of their bills.

Hydro now has an option online to defer the payment until next month or billing cycle. Clearly they're aware that hydro can be quite pricey for many.

I guess you have to decide what's important in your life.

Paying bills, taxes and my normal monthly expenses come first. Then I have a pooner budget.

I know BC Hydro give you a long rope to hang yourself with by sending out a demand letter for payment before flicking off your switch. I missed one on a rental property and it was almost cut off. Luckily I got it paid the same day as the termination notice and had an understanding customer service rep.

Yes, it is a penalty. It's a penalty that you pay because you've been so late paying what you owe that they had to take extreme measures (cutting off service) to get you to pay. It's not like they cut you off as soon as you're a little late on one payment. It's pretty much their last resort. If, after all of that, you want to be reconnected you have to pay a penalty to do so because you've proven that you're the type of person who isn't going to pay your debts when you should.

Uh Huh - how do you think all the computer crap gets paid for? This really isn't any different than ticketmaster charging you a ridiculous "convenience fee"... may not make sense, but that's life....

I can never understand what the hell you are saying/writing about because your spelling is so atrocious.

Looking at my hydro bill last month and comparing it to this month I see nothing has changed except my usage. I also see I am billed in two "stages". If I exceed the power used in stage one, I am charged at a slightly higher rate for stage two. The only reason I can think for my bill being higher is that it is winter and I have my lights on more since it gets darker about five hours earlier than it does in the summer. I was logged into my BC Hydro account last night and saw the defer payment option like Bill suggested, I also noticed that you can "report a payment" as an added step to ensure you do not experience a disruption in service.

Hydro is a scam. I remember before I left ON I was saddled with a Hydro bill that was $700!!! We think due to the A/C. I had two choices. Pay my hydro bill or pay my rent.

I had a hydro bill one month that was $987 & I tripped out! It was correct though. That's when I went on the divided payment plan. They basically average out your payments for the year and you pay "X" amount per month. If there is any owing/extra, it's paid to you or you pay it at the end of the year.

We need nuclear power already!!!
