Bawdy house busted in southwest Edmonton
Community concern prompted police investigation
By Journal Staff, edmontonjournal.com November 23, 2010 EDMONTON — Edmonton police have charged one man and two women in connection with the operation of a bawdy house in the MacEwan community in southwest Edmonton.
The investigation began about five months ago after officers received calls from concerned members of the community. The investigation culminated in a search warrant conducted on the home located on the 400 block of 119th Street on Nov. 17.
The following individuals have been charged with keeping a bawdy house, living off the avails of prostitution and possession of the proceeds of crime: Paul Ngai, 47, of Edmonton; Mik Young Park, 35, of Vancouver; and Shuk Fair Yu, 39, of Vancouver.
“Once again we received information from concerned members of the community and we acted on that information,” said vice section Staff Sgt. John Fiorilli. “This is a direct result of people paying attention to what’s going on in their community and contacting police when they feel something is not right.”
Police say the most common indicators of a possible bawdy house are:
— Consistent traffic to and from the house throughout the day and evening
— Different vehicles
— Men ages 25-50 are the typical visitors
— 30-minute to 1-hour visits
