I was going through some of my old belonging in storage, and came across this Barry Bonds rookie card...

I don't know why everyone thinks he did steroids, seems like his physique is about the same now as it was when he was a rookie

LMAO!! I'd forgot they issued a Barry Bonds rookie card right after the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted him from an amateur team located in Biafra. But your suggestion that it was anything other than drinking whole milk and eating hearty meals at McDonalds that got him to the size he is today is troubling. Why that would mean he's become the home run king by cheating and we all know major league baseball would never have allowed any such thing to happen.

To Freaky...

That exact card? Really?

Seems Barry Bonds has numerous rookie cards, but none of them look like the one posted, as it is a photoshop compilation (and I don't just mean the pic of Barry, obviously)...

(1) the "Barry Bonds" label at the bottom comes from his 1987 Topps card.
(2) the "The Rookies" stamp is from his 1986 Donruss card.

Which one do you have?

Since I collect sports cards I can tell you his true rookie is

....An 86 Topps with wood grained border. Many other companies issued rookie cards but depending on print run, availability, and popularity and actual time of issue decides which one is the original and worth the most??? Same thing happened to me with Mark Maguire His original card at time of issue was like 2-3 dollars after he won the long ball contest that year his card was worth 2-3 hundered dollars it eventually leveled off at about 90 bucks I guess?

You are partly correct. Bonds' RC appeared in the 1986 end-of-year update sets ("Rookies" by Donruss,"Update" by Fleer & "Traded" by Topps). The wood grain border card you refer to is 1987 Topps. 1986 had a black border around the top third of the card and a white border around the remaining 2/3 of the card. 1987 was the first year he appeared a regular issue set but the 1986 updates are considered his real RC. The Donruss & Fleer versions would have a premium over the Topps version.

um, i gained 40 pounds in 10 months , last year i was 160 pounds , this year im 200 pounds below 13 % . You think bonds can't gain 40 pounds of muscle in 20 years with his genetics ? Another thing, steroids in hockey is suppose to be a even bigger issue the baseball.

yup, lotsa hockey players use steroids, but check out the guy who
holds all the records ... does he look like he ever juiced????

and the reality is in hockey that the juice helps with endurance and
healing ... it really won't make you a better hockey player ...

in baseball it still takes the same skill to hit a ball as to score a goal
in hockey, but in the former, the added strength makes the difference
between a base hit and a home run ...

i think that's the issue ...

seriously?!?!

Sincity...
are you seriously trying to defend the guy?

first of all...he has admitted to using steroids, remember "the cream" and "the clear"?
he has simply denied knowingly using them, and blamed his trainer.

second, his hat size has increaed by 4 sizes, and his shoe size by 3 full sizes since the mid 90's....that is not a side effect of working out, it's a by-product of growth hormone and anabolic steroids.

If you still need convincing, read the book Game Of Shadows, its full of documentation from the Balco raid with Barry's name mentioned hundreds of times

If thats the case, why are 240 pound baseball players striking out every other bat. Size has nothing to do with your vision. Opps, i shouldn't of said that, since now reporters are saying since Bonds has used roids, that has helped his eye sight

Clemens was a roid monkey, Schilling was a roid monkey , how many records do these guys have ? You might as well clean every record since they started testing for roids, because you don't know which is tinted or not.

Yes, every record SHOULD be cleaned.

You didn't read his post very well, did you? The difference between a BASE HIT and a HOME RUN. Both are hits, and it was never suggested that steroids had any effect on vision.

Actually, depending on what form was used, I would think it could actually cause jitters and impair vision a tad...

read my post again ... it takes 'skill' to hit the ball, but with steroids
you can hit it further, turning a typical 'base hit' into a potential home run!

Precisely! Many say the hardest thing to do in sports is to hit a baseball thrown at you from 60 feet, 6 inches away (actually closer by the time the pitcher releases the ball) at upwards of 90 miles per hour. Juicing increases the likelihood it will go further if you connect but it won't help a player to connect.

your head doesn't grow with steroids, but it does with growth hormone. i personally don't care if he juiced it or not. i think anybody associated with book deals or balco labs decided to use the biggest names possible to deflect any attention from their wrong doing. nobody remembers the name of the president of balco, but everybody knows that barry bonds guy who juiced it to get the record.

one of you guys said that in hockey it won't make you a better player, think again - with steroids you heal faster, skate faster, shoot the puck harder, and can hit harder, and being able to do all that with finesse is up you to and your training.

i think most people know what the word steroids is, but very few know the different types and what they will do for you.
