British theme park bans Speedos - to protect the children

British theme park Alton Towers has decided that guests wearing Speedos are no longer welcome in their park.

The iconic "show your bulge" swimming trunks are deemed unfriendly to families, and possibly scary to kids.

Of course, the whole argument is based upon standards gone crazy, because 20 years ago, beaches were full of men wearing their Speedos, and as far as I know, there have been no mass outbreaks of adults requiring mental care to suppress flashbacks of their childhood trips to the beach.

The park is so hell-bent on protecting the children, that they are even considering offering complimentary male waxing services, you know, so the poor kids don't see little hairs coming out the side of daddy's trunks.

I've got a much more "European" opinion of the Speedo - if you can pull it off, do it. My biggest concern is people who can not pull it off, yet do it anyway.

This is just sad.

Yet another step to make kids think that our own bodies are shameful and embarrassing. That's where real damage comes from. Not from seeing some doofus in a Speedo.

Since I just got back from Europe and spent most of my time by water, I have seen it enough, grrrr......
I grew up seeing my dad in red speedo through time fading to orange....lol
Not a fan of it no matter you have a great bod or not, however you will not be able to change or bann, but maybe slowly will fade away with time.
It's already getting less and less as I have seen it.
Most guys are like it because they like to tan their hairy legs........:p

R U Kidding me? The chicks dig me in my Speedo at Kits Pool. At 5'7" & 305 lbs, the ladies can't get enough of me. Sure I'm a few pounds off my graduating weight of 120 lbs. but it doesn't seem to stop the ladies from lining up to put lotion on my hairy back. What can I say, It's a gift;)
You just hope it's a woman and that it's "lotion"...

One of the things that has changed in Europe in the past 20 years is that there is now a sizable ultra religious, and therefore ultra conservative, Muslim population. When you have women walking around London wearing tents, you'd better believe that there is part of the population that will be horrified by Speedos, and not because of the aesthetic offenses of the over or underweight. The Brits, suffering from post-colonial guilt, are very conscious of not giving offense and making great concessions to minority groups.

That being said I've always loved the Speedo's humorous nicknames: Banana Hammock and Budgie Smuggler.
