There is another thread about travelling to San Diego and entry bans came up a couple of times. Things that happen at home or abroad often may have repercussions on our freedom to foreign travel. Sometimes just having a countries stamp in your passport could deny you entry into another country, or having to explain your travels when you arrive at home. Israel, although they do not stamp passports any more was one, and Cuban doesn't anymore as it was problematic for US citizens.

I worked for a few years in the US years ago, with a green card; I would get asked about the Cuba stamps. Even though it was years ago, US immigration still looks at me twice when I say I'm not entering for work. They keep track of it forever.

When I applied for my Nexus card I had to disclose previous travel. At the interview part of the process CBP took interest in my past work in the US and travel to Russia and China.

Of course cannabis or alcohol convictions are probably the most common reason for being denied entry. The advent of facial recognition at US entry has resulted in denied entry for a few SPs. This would be another reason for the ladies conceal faces and certain recognizable features.

I'm curious as to other folks experiences with foreign entry bans.

I'm planning to go to Cuba myself this spring break.....and then I want to go to Disneyland after to check out the new Star Wars park.

So what you're saying is, if the US customs agent sees that I've been to Cuba, I'm not allowed in the country?

I went to Cuba just over a decade ago and have been through US Customs many time since. No one ever mentioned it, it was never an issue.

Were you using a passport with a Cuba stamp in it?

Cuba no longer stamps passports, unless you ask for one. You are given an entry/ exit card. Even with a Cuba stamp, you won't have a problem as a Canadian with travel to the US. It was an issue (still maybe??) for US citizens.

At one time, one of the charter companies offering Cuba would fly out of YWG to YQT (Thunder Bay). Most of those boarding were Americans. There was no direct travel to Cuba from the US.

AFAIK Cuba isn't an issue anymore since the U.S. has opened up travel and trade.
Travel to Cuba by US citizens is still restricted. There are exceptions.

The restrictions are very minimal; basically almost everyone can go.
Anything to do with Obama, #45 is reversing.

New relations with Cuba are changing back to the old ways.

Now that there are problems in Venezuala, #45 is referring to them as puppets of Cuba. This was 48 hours ago. People are thinking one way out of this mess with Mueller is to go to war. Pick em Venezuela, Iran, N Korea etc. Americans tend to support their presidents while at war. I suppose #45 would be supported too. It would be a bogus war just like the wall is not an emergency.

Still as Canadians, we are known as a country that frequents Cuba for holidays. If US Immigration wants to be dicks about it, yes, they can deny entry to Canadians with stamped passports. The agents don't really need a solid reason to deny access. They could make things very uncomfortable at the border with an out being self exclusion by the Canadian trying to visit US.

I'd choose to go to Cuba over the US anyways.
Your welcome and safe there, instead of wandering around in a country like the US ,that lives in fear of everyone, and each other.....and thinks it's a world of its own.

I don't miss the U.S. one bit. And the way Trump is fucking everything up I'm even less inclined to care about the U.S.

Same here I like to give it a pass. With all these new powers INS have, it's pretty low on my list of travel destinations.

I do have to go a couple of times a year on biz and it's always the same being sent to secondary. I had a work permit and stopped working down there. Same questions same answers every friken time. Last trip to the east coast I went 4 hours before departure. I barely made the flight. It's tough being polite and civil towards these people. They are trained to get under your skin to see if there is anything else they can learn about your 'possible visit'

I'm not sure about now...…. My brother not only had Cuban stamps in his passport. He had a Cuban student visa. He studied Spanish at a university there. So he basically lived in Cuba. He has zero problems with US customs.

As a Canadian, you won't. Even US citizens are allowed to travel to Cuba for education studies.

That's correct,......they just had to wear dog-tags, and pretty much stay in American friendly hotels if they left Varadaro.
I can't remember the name of the street it was on but I've been there several times In Havana.
