Indonesia as a whole is a predominantly Islamic country. If they are trying to get into step with other Islamic countries , this might be their first step.

Bali has Buddhism as its largest religious group. Maybe a bit more Liberal than the Island of Java.

I can’t see them turning away 1M visitors from Australia yearly.

I've spent a fair amount of time living/working in Islamic countries, and many of them have "temporary marriage licenses". While you might assume these are to allow foreigners to escape the harsh laws over there, they are actually for locals who want to play around legally. An example is the resort island of Kish in Iran where a lot of couples go to play.

I understand Indonesia also has temporary marriage contracts.

I read that only close family member can report you, so its unlikely that you will get in trouble if you are a tourist.

That's called muta and it's primarily followed by shiites.

Most Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia and Dubai have prostitutes, which foreigners seem to have a go at. The idea is not to get caught or be out in the open in a public area.

Besides let's not forget how a couple of SP's who were in a romantic relationship got the law on their asses here locally for kissing on a beach.

I clearly have a different risk profile from some, I am not going to chance my temporary marriage license, which seems open to interpretation, expiring. Then I get my balls chopped off just for the chance of getting laid in a Muslim country.

Bali is mostly Hindu, not Buddhist and again, the person who reports you has to be a close family member, so its unlikely you will get into trouble unless you are going on a very strange vacation.

Oh well, there's always the Maldives. Just don't wear a bikini on the beach. Apart from that, the place is a paradise so I hear. You could tell the cops were pissed. Kept saying "arduadua" That can't be good.

Indonesian just released the Bali Bomber from jail; he was responsible for killing and maiming scores of people (mostly Australians). This is another good reason to choose another country to visit and avoid countries such as Indonesia.

They put themselves openly on the media and even posted it on here for clout way back when. One of them went off the rails after that though, while the other has managed to remain a legit provider.

Like most SEA areas, prostitution is illegal, but it turns a blind eye with sex tourism because they know it's their top 10 resource for their tourist economy.

Muslim orthodoxy in Bali isn't as bad as Middle Eastern countries. I mean look at "Sky Garden" in Kuta, and wonder how the fuck that place is still standing.
