Hey Julia, wasn't Dinosaur provincial park amazing?! I was there 2 summers ago and what a view descending into the coulies (sp?)! It was sooo different from BC! It must have been quite a trip on shrooms. It was like being on another planet, I can't imagine being high there, frankly some of the climbs we did it would have been too dangerous. I was disappointed not to see more fossils just lying around, so next time I'm going to spend more time in Drumheller and visit the official museum!

Yay Alberta!

More info!

The other night I had people over after the bar, and I was playing the badger song when one guy sees the screen and pipes up "hey, that's a muscara mushroom" and I'm like what? So he says its the Aminita family of mushrooms used as an ecstasy agent (India), and a hallucinogenic (Indian peoples of Meso-America). He said it is toxic and known to cause the "toggle effect", a switch in the brain that causes a day long epileptic seizure. That explains the trippy song, it is reminiscent of a seizure, but doesn't explain the variation in badgers except that when the right amount is taken, it's a real trip.

He went on to say that a movie was made called "the Bear" about an orphaned bear that eats muscara mushrooms and has a visually stunning hallucination. (He said bears often eat magic mushrooms.) So has anyone seen this movie?? I mean a bear trippin out, that's a must see!!

Well it took me a few days to decide on my vote. My first reaction was of course was for the snake:p Then after further viewing, the mushroom was looking pretty good......but no holds bar, after multiple viewings, the hanging from between the badgers legs got the best of me.......so of course badger got my vote.

ps I think I have been reading too many HD posts:eek:

the bear

Massagegirl: I saw that movie on tv once. I can't remember if the little bear was orphaned or just separated from its mother for a while, but I do rmember it eating the mushrooms. It had a nice little trip involving some butterflies it saw.

I always thought that amanita muscaria, the mushroom with the red cap and white spots, was a poisonous mushroom with some psychedelic effects (and I am not sure if that's just because you don't take a lethal dose).

So I looked it up on magic-mushrooms.net

and saw this

"don't confuse psilocybe mushrooms with Amanita Muscaria (fly agaric). There is no psilocybin nor psilocyn in Fly Agaric and we don't consider it a 'real' magic mushroom.
The (red with white dots) Amanita Muscaria can cause a very unpleasent experience and health problems. Potential symptoms of Muscarine, an active alkaloid of Fly Agaric and other Amanita's, followed after ingestion as described by The Merck Index are: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache and bronchospasm. With larger doses: acrimation, incontinence, bracycardia, hypotension and shock. Ibotanic acid, also an active substance of the Amanita's may cause brain damage as described by various authors on Public Medline. Muscimole is another active alkaloid in Amanita Muscaria. Its symptoms after oral intake are described by Richard Schultzes and Albert Hofmann as confusion, disorientation in situation and time perception, disturbance of visual function and hearing, muscle twitching, weariness, fatigue and sleep."

Muscimole....what is that...mescaline in a mole sauce?
