anybody here have experience raising chickens?..... my neighbor just bought 2 six month old chickens and so far they dont make much noise.... they are supposed to be pumping out 1 egg each a day which is probably enough for most people....Im thinking of building my chicken coop in a couple of weeks so im hoping to get some feedback from anyone who is has set one up

)... that's why we have to clean up after them in order to avoid the stink.Same for chickens.
Well you guys would know better than I would... unfortunately my farm experience is rather small.
I just figure that the whole urban chicken/coop thing would have been or would be very unpopular if the result was a stinky neighborhood...
That's just what I'm assuming.
Especially in this city where everyone likes to complain about what the neighbor's doing that might remind them that *gasp* they're not living on an island by themselves...
I'd assume the whole stinky chicken issue would be pretty big and it would not have taken very long for some grouch (the self appointed neighborhood whiner - you know you all have one of those) to get them to shut the whole thing down.
So I'd expect that in reality, it's probably not all that bad if cleaned well and often.
But also... wouldn't a couple chickens in their roomy coop produce smell more manageable than a few dozens crammed in close quarters, likely with poor ventilation?
I really want some chickens now!

Most people would only need two or three chickens and i think municipal bylaws limit the number in urban areas.
I have seen movable coops made of nylon tent material. About 1/3 is covered with a floor and access hatch to get the eggs, the other 2/3 is just netting without a floor so there is access to grass(free range).
You just have to drag the coop to a new location every day or two so there is always fresh grass and the grass can recover in the previous location. This method also distributes the chicken poop so that the grass is not overwhelmed, no different really than the birds flying over and crapping on your lawn.

I've smelled stinky chicken coops, but I really doubt that a couple of hens would produce much stink.

Male and female were cordoned off separately. She begged me not to allow the male to the female side.
Oops....horny bunny jumped over the median and plugged femme bunny. Guess what happened next?!?
My friend was pissed, but seriously....what did she expect?
I had a roomie when I was 18, that had a pet bunny that she kept in our livingroom. Being the clean freak I am, it drove me BATTY. I ended up having to vacuum up the wood chips cuz she was a pig. OH, and the smell......
I prefer human bunnies. Case in point.
