Seems our search and rescue teams are worried about people going into the back country and getting in to trouble, and requiring help, to the risk of the SAR teams. Although I feel that we should look after one another, anyone going into the back country now should be considered to be strictly on their own, and responsible for their own rescue. Similarly, people going to visit remote resort areas without a good infrastructure should also be left on their own in case of illness or accident. The lineups at BC Ferries today suggests that there are a lot of people who think of no one but themselves.

You should go down there with a sign and see if you can shame them off the ferry!

Too late now - so many of them are on the Island. They are not intelligent enough to respond to shaming - they are so entitled!!!! And only some are coming to the Island - there is lots of interesting back country throughout the province.

To stop living, for fear of death, is just the most ridiculous way of thinking possible.

That is as illogical as anything could possibly be.

What next, worrying about being in debt, so you go buy 500 new Lamborghinis?!

Meanwhile they've turned Beach Avenue into a promenade. The back country is likely far safer.

Yeah, it's like those stupid hospital workers who bother wearing protective equipment.

Self preservation is a basic human instinct, anybody who says different is full of shit.

I don’t think people actually go to war daily.
Every day, year after year, there is a skirmish somewhere. Just because you were not there personally, doesn't mean that it never happened. Go sit with a veteran, or someone currently serving, and not in an office role or something. Someone who has served a few tours of duty, right in the middle of the war. It will change your mind about how you think currently.

I know and have talked with a Canadian soldier who served in Afghanistan. Didn’t change my mind about anything.

I may be a bit dense, but I totally did not get what you're trying to convey.

OP is saying let the people who want to take risk in the back country now, take it on their own.

So go ahead if you want, just don't bring your cell phone with you, and don't tell anyone where you go.

To live, only thinking of yourself, is just the most ridiculous way of thinking possible.*

Just wait for the May long weekend when all of the fucking idiots that "must go camping" for the sake of it...even then they go "glamping" with a 5th wheel etc and take the niceties of Society with them like heat/hot water/electricity and so on.Those assholes will be out in full force and bringing along quads to drive over spawning streams and shit up the wilderness for the sake of doing so.Kind of like mindless idiots who will watch the dumbest sport invented that being basketball just for the sake of watching sports with the mindset of "if I am not watching sports I am a FAG".....god I truly despise those idiots. At the same time I am licking my chops with sadistic glee as I experience these fucking idiots whine about how they cant watch a hockey game or a basketball game or how the baseball season wont happen.

What can I say.I was raised by British parents and hockey night in Canada NEVER was never watched on Saturday when I was a kid nor as an adult.Just dont give a flying fuck about it.

My sympathy to the recently departed Oilers player who died of a brain bleed....very young and it came out of left field so to speak.
