It seems to be all the rage these days to have an avatar under your name. The only member that i can remember having one for a longest time was deke.

Thanx to Pornholio for informing me that the image can't be bigger than 50 pixels. It should be noted that it also has to be a JPEG or GIF file. (I have not used JPEG files myself)

I use Photoshop to convert images into GIF files, and to reduce images to the smaller 50 pixels. There are other software applications that can do the same. I'm thinking those that come with scanners and printers. There are many web sites that have downloadable images you can use. Some are BMP so you still have to convert them to the required format.

Anyone have any tips they can pass on in creating better avatars? Some are very blurry and hard to make out.
Wheres the best web site for avatars?

julia you now have an avatar, and thats the purpose of this thread to introduce other members at aquiring avatars.

Pornholio is photosuite platinum a free download or bundled with hardware? or can you purchase it at your local computer store? cheaper than Photoshop which retails for $1100 dollars. --- Kev

its basic is bundled w/roxio 6. But the platinum has a few other features. I have photoshop too, but the resize on photosuite is easier.

if you need a simple, but fairly powerful program try LView Pro
NO WAY!!! dude get the fu*k outta town. LView was like my first image viewer for looking at dirty pics when I got my 2400bps modem and hit the BBS's. Man if I could download 3 pics before dropping connection I was styling!! Thank god for Z Modem.

About the Avatar thing. Try Irfanview, does simple resizing and image conversion and is free. Some have said when resizing large pics don't just go from 1600x1200 to 80x80, take it down gradually.

Also in Photoshop try transparent backgrounds, sometimes depending on your Avatar it can look cool when posted.
