Interesting little factoid from speaking with a trusted friend now back from Australia:

Personal taxes top rate is 48%.

Top bracket reached at $50,000 AUS.

As a comparison to cost of living there: 1 gallon milk, $8.

I also heard that the price of organic fruit & vegetables, in Australia, are ridiculously high... it makes Vancouver's Whole Foods look like the Walmart of organics.

So it seems, but not correct. I will still question my friend on this one!!!

Look:

$180,001 and over --
$54,550 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000

In other words, 33% up to $180,000 but 45% above it.

Both Coles and Woolworths (the 2 biggest supermarket chains) were selling a litre carton of skim milk for $1.25aud when I was in Sydney last month, so we milk drinkers can take heart. Also, a 1 hr session at a bordello staffed by mature Chinese ladies cost only $130aud, so some things are reasonably priced. However, a can of 3 tennis balls costs $9aud, so a lot of things do seem quite expensive.
