Aunt Jemima. noun. Slang: Disparaging and Offensive. a black woman considered by other black people to be subservient to or to curry favor with white people.

Here I though all along it was a brand name. Same with Uncle Ben's Rice.

For more updated reasons why the company is changing the name:

I’d be surprised if they hadn’t done marketing surveys in relation to the brand name, and realized that now was the time they were waiting for. An opportunity to look socially conscious and increase sales with a rebranding

I remember when the Aunt Jemima logo picture had her wearing a bandana, and why the bandana was removed, years ago. Now, Aunt Jemima is totally unacceptable, it seems.

I read that Uncle Ben will also be removed, from their rice logo.
For sure Uncle Ben is gone. What are the odds of them replacing him with Fu Manchu?

I did not know that the name was used in that manner. It appears to be the female equivalant to "Uncle Tom", which of course was not based on a food product, or any other product that I am aware of, but on the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which I must admit I have never read. I believe the novel predates the American civil war and helped to set the ground work for said civil war.
