Check your closet..:)
Why would you do that when it isn't recommended for people over 65......

"Regulators in Europe are at odds over whether the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine should be given to the elderly. In the UK, the vaccine has been approved for use in adults aged 18 and up, but France, Germany, Sweden and Austria say the vaccine should be prioritised for those under the age of 65. Poland only recommends it for those younger than 60. Italy goes one step further and only recommends it for those 55 and younger."

I suspect that Astra Zeneca has not yet arrived and it will be one of the earlier approved vaccines. It is simple enough to ask during the phone call.

FYI, if you know anyone above 80 and hasn't gotten the vaxx yet, then they can call into 1-888-COVID19 on Monday to sign up for an appointment.
Are you sure? That number is for non medical covid19 information.

Monday more information on the plan in BC is being rolled out, and from what I have heard, regional Public Health will be contacting seniors directly to book their vaccination appointments.

Yes, because I had called them 15 minutes before writing the post.

That is weird?! I live in Coastal Health and had been in touch with HealthGateway mid-week and they said there was lots of misinformation, including in the media, about what the plan for vaccine registration was going to be and to wait until Monday for the rollout. So I am not sure why they would have shared that with you and not the media or the public?

Yesterday, I heard directly (but unofficially) from a relative that works in Public Health and they said seniors are going to be contacted directly by telephone to book their appointments. And public health employees have had their schedules expanded to work seven days a week for the rollout.

I guess we will find out Monday?

If Pfizer and Moderna vaccines offer 95% protection, why would anyone want the Astra Zeneca, that only claims a 60 or 65%?

The advantage of the astra Zeneca vaccine is that it is also effective against the Uk and South African strains. As well, it’s one dose versus two .

Huh? Actually, Astra Z is a two dose vaccine and isn't as effective as Pfizer or Moderna against the South African variant for preventing symptomatic infections, but is effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths.

Johnson and Johnson is the only one dose vaccine available, but it hasn't been approved in Canada, yet.

Astra Zeneca in trail has 0 deaths, 0 hospitalizations and 0 reaction to the injections. You may get mild symptoms, but you won't end up in hospital or worse. Neither Pfizer nor Moderna can make this claim.

South Africa stopped its Astra Zeneca vaccination program because its scientists found the drug was not helping enough to stop the South African variant B1351.

However, groups from the World Health Authority to Fraser Health are reporting the vaccines approved in Canada (Pfizer, Moderna and Astra Zeneca) can prevent moderate and severe COVID-19 symptoms in people who contract a variant.

South Africa has now moved to Johnson & Johnson as its primary vaccine provider.

“The variant strain can transmit more quickly and easily but does not seem to cause more severe illness, nor interfere with the effectiveness of vaccines, nor affect our ability to test for the virus,” Fraser Health reports.

Just called them to book but NOPE - not accepting any reservations. Will have to wait for Public Health to call. Was misinformed on Friday.

You will be eligible to call your regional public health authority to book your vaccination appointment based on your age cohort - over 90s starting March 8, over 85s starting March 15, over 80s starting March 22. The numbers have been posted online and you are expected to actually receive the vaccination the week following your call.

So happy this is finally happening for our most vulnerable in the community!

Shows the roll out.
Pretty impressive.
No, not the overall handling as Canada should have had a made in Canada vaccine (we are very strong in Biotech), but the fact that within a year of the spreading of a global pandemic caused by a zoonic virus for which humans have either no or very very little natural immunity, we have vaccines. Usually takes 10 years.
This goes to show that humans can probably fix most diseases if the will is there.

Truly, humanity had a very lucky break with the vaccine since scientists had started on working on the foundational concepts many years ago. This wasn't out of the blue.

WTF?!!!

The EU is stopping the use of the AZ vaccine, due to concerns about blood clots, and are about to adopt Russia's Sputnik Vaccine.

Apparently that all came from one faulty recalled batch, will be interesting if it happens with different batches, lots of eyes on this one!
