This video came up in my Facebook memories today and I remember when I first watched it. Admittedly, I was one of those women who thought I was just "not attracted" to Asian men. After watching this video, I went out of my way to immerse myself in media with Asian men who were cast in more desirable roles. I deprogrammed myself any no longer have that bias! Asian men are super sexy to me now!

There's some interesting stuff in here about the fetishization of Asian women in here too.

The history behind our biases and preferences is just wild!

Oh! I never thought that race got anything to do with attraction at one point or another. To me its always been chemistry or at least I thought. Interesting..

Yeah that’s what I thought too, then I watched this. It literally changed my life. We’ve been conditioned in so many fucked up ways by racist laws and cultural norms

Props to you Charlee for acknowledging this. Studies on online dating sites have shown that Asian men receive the fewest responses. And compared to Hispanic and Caucasian males who made median income of $40-50K, Asian men needed to make over $100K to be seen as desirable.

??? Women didn't consider Bruce Lee hot and desireable?

Some people are wired differently and are so influenced by the environments that they grew up in. My parents never showed racial discrimination. I can't ever recall not finding all women attractive.

That's a great example of institutionalized racism, and one that is often ignored because there's a bigger focus on things that (deservingly IMO, but nonetheless) matter more. I likely have some of these tendencies, so yeah, I am probably a racist at times. It's good that things like this are brought to light because the only way we grow out of these misinformed beliefs is to be aware of it first. To the people who look at this and think to themselves "well this ain't me"... it's time to stop putting yourself on a pedestal and reflect a bit deeper on who you are and who you would like to be.

We're all culturally influenced to some degree, but that video is so childishly basic, and distorted, I'm surprised anyone could, or would take it seriously. It’s so bad, it even displays Vietnam as an island.

So-called white, ethno-European nations are the only ones in the world that embrace multi-culturalism, and welcome people from all cultures and races, and accept them with equal rights, privileges and protections.

Almost all Asian and African cultures are quite resistant to accepting other races either culturally, socially or even fiscally, so saying we've been culturally indoctrinated as some implementation of "racist laws and cultural norms", is just what other countries see as normal. As well, the same preferences exist in Asian countries. Japan, in particular, but more and more in China, some women go for white men, but it is rare for Asian men to attract anyone outside their race.

Anyway, aren’t we always being told that fetishes are okay, and should be accepted no matter what they are? So now, this video is trying to shame people who fetishize a race. Make up your minds, woke people.

The Japanese enslavement of Chinese women for prostitution was not mostly for American men, I don't even know how they claim that, as it is completely false, since it occurred before, and during WW 11 in Japanese-occupied territories. It was done for Japanese soldiers.

It also ignores Sessue Hayakawa, who became one of the first sex symbols, and a leading man in Hollywood in the 20’s, and was one of the highest paid.

Okay so you think other countries are similar in wealth and prosperity compared to the "Ethno-European nations". Ethno-european countries are more welcoming to immigrants because they need the immigrants and have screening procedures in place. They don't do it only for humane or empathetic reasons. Moreover the colonialism still echoes through, so a reciprocal love or embrace from people of those countries is something of a high expectation. If you want to listen how bad the colonialism was to countries like India, in brief, then watch the linked video. I can share a book or two if you want something not very superficial or want to increase your academic knowledge.

I agree with your point of fetishes.

Side note CharleeBeckett you are one of the most positive vibes on PERB.

Are you trying to argue South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, India or Middle Eastern Arabic nations don't have equivalent wealth to Western nations? Colonialism exploited many countries, but one could easily argue the legacy of British colonialism in India left a lot of positives that other nations didn't get - an amazing rail system that is the backbone of Indian travel and commerce, and effective educational system that gave rise to a growing middle, and upper class, a modern postal system, a head start in English, the language of the world, and most importantly- a place in the British Commonwealth, that allowed India to exploit its resources for export. Their head start in English led directly to their presence in the high tech industry.

Wowwwwww

imagine in one forum post saying that Asian countries are just as privileged as white countries and then also literally saying an Asian country benefitted from white invasion

This is patently and demonstrably false. The middle eastern countries are far more multicultural than Europe. Egypt, Turkey, and even Iran. Crossroads of empires.

The railroad system was established for one purpose only. To ship the wealth out of India and into Great Britain. India was wealthy and had a complex education system before the Brits showed up. GB set about dismantling this. After the Brits left, India reestablished its economy and education system again. Long ways to go still.

You are completely wrong.

Have you ever lived, or even visited the countries you mentioned?
I have lived in Turkey, and visited Egypt. These are about as closed societies as you could envision.
Iran basically sealed itself off from the rest of the world for decades.
Crossroads of empires, just means they were invaded more often.
