I remember 2004&2006 when,respectively,the
Flames&Oilers were being cheered on nation-wide.

The 'nucks are the last Cdn team standing but are
they being supported elsewhere,eg Mtl,Tor,etc?

I haven't been to other large Cdn cities recently
so I can't say,but I'm curious if anyone has
knowledge on this?

Yes only B.C. Team. They will get sick back east if the Canucks win anymore games. B.C. has been moveing forward since 1986 and leaveing the rest of Canada in the dust....

All I can say is this - after living in Toronto for my entire life, I'm happy to jump on ANY bandwagon that has the slightest chance of playoff success! :p

Let's Go 'Nucks! :D

BCs team, the rest of Canada is actually quite bitter.
Has anyone listened to the intermission shows cbc puts on?

When Calgary and edmonton made their lucky runs, I wanted them to lose, and they did.

When Canada;won the 2010 Olympic Mens Ice Hockey Gold, there were no parties on the streets of Montreal.
When Montreal Canadiens;advanced to the 2010 Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals, police cars were being torched like it were Fete Nationale/St.Jean Baptiste Day.

NHL Hockey Teams are definetley a regional passion.
After 18 years away from Canada;most of Anglophone Canada will be happy for any Canadian NHL franchise,to bring home the Stanley Cup.
Francophone Canadiens, would be far more interested in seeing the return of the Quebec Nordique franchise.

I'll take this opportunity;to applaud the good work of Roberto Luongo,Alex Burrows and Maxime LaPierre.
They have all been very helpful to Canucks'2011 playoff run.

Yes & No

One of the things I've noticed fairly recently is the number of Canucks sweaters in the audience during road trips through the canadian cities steadily geting more popular. Some of them are members of Canucks Nation, but a lot of them are also Fans living in other towns.

I think most of the rest of Canada outside of BC doesn't care , but the genuine Canuck fan in on board.

If the shoe were on the other foot with any of the other teams from Canada; I would have difficulty cheering for them but would in the end.

I asked my buddy in Ottawa if he were on the Canucks bandwagon yet. He replied it was a lot easier for him now that Montreal is out of contention. He could never cheer for them.

Funny thing last time the Flames made a run for the Cup in 2004. Radio Stations in Edmonton would get the radio feed from the Tampa because it was so over the top in favour of Tampa.

As an original Oiler fan, I cheer for every Canadian city except Toronto. Of course there are exceptions. I never cheered for Calgary when I lived in Edmonton. I cheered for Vancouver in 82 when Edmonton sucked it against LA. I cheered for NYR in 94 mostly because it was full of ex-Oilers. I did cheer for Calgary in 2004 and Ottawa in 2007. I will cheer Vancouver this year. I have even promised to buy a t-shirt if they make the final. Go nucks Go

Oops, I forgot that part - I'll never root for the f*%$#n' Sens! I'd sooner let that bandwagon run me over before I would jump on it! :fear:

I think a big part of it is that the Canucks are actually a really good team, as well as a good team to watch. So, you've got a lot of Canadian fans (such as myself) who also enjoy watching them play - not just because they're Canadian, but because they're also quite good. They've dominated the regular season, and a lot of people have said for a while that it's "their year" (much like Ottawa in 2007).

Calgary and Edmonton were heavy underdogs throughout the playoffs, and they got through the early rounds on gritty play and a few incredible individual performances (Iginla & Kiprusoff for Calgary, Pronger & Roloson for Edmonton). They were easy bandwagons to jump on, because there weren't any expectations. But that support was short-lived, and mostly evaporated after the Finals; I don't think either of them have made it past the first round since.

Vancouver (much like Ottawa) has been a competitor for several years now, and it looks like they're finally getting their $%^& together. But there are still plenty of haters, mostly from other cities who wouldn't root for them under any circumstances (much like Ottawa).

Anyways, that's just my 0.02 cents - take it for what it's worth. I'm just a puck bunny in LeafLand who loves hockey too much for her own good. :cheer2:

No, it's not.

That said, I don't think any team in this country can really claim to be Canada's team any more. The Leafs and the Habs could have made that claim up until the 60s, where they were only NHL teams in the country. Even until the late 70s, when the Habs were still dominant.

But since the 80s, the addition of the other Canadian franchise (and the merger with the WHA), has produced local fan bases that might have otherwise cheered for the Leafs or Habs.
