I liked the original movie from 1999, so when I saw this had come out I thought 'bonus scenes cut from the original, should be good!' boy was I in for a suprise  The whole Introduction/3rd act of the movie is different with: Different characters, different locations, and the ending is different. While the rest of the movie has new scenes/different versions of scenes added, the tone of the movie is more gritty/less pulpy (than the theatrical cut was), and a whole new music score the film was set to. I was suprised at Brian Helgeland's original cut (Gibson and Icon Productions changed the 3rd act and other details to suit a more studio friendly movie  ) it has more in common with other films he's been attached to like L.A. Confidential with that gritty realism that Confidential had. This director's cut is totally worth checking out if you liked the theatrical cut, it's like an alternate reality version of Porter's quest for revenge (especially the 3rd act  )
