The more I think about this bust, the more it stinks.

LE knows full well, and have a long list of names of who works in Greater Vancouver's AMPs. Regular unannounced visits are the norm.

Having said that, they could easily have concluded that the chance of picking up illegal aliens or "sex slaves" would be remote at best.

So they proceed anyway with their "piece de resistance" raids with the media in tow, and parade the owners and workers in handcuffs, and even draw their weapons in a few cases.

Our "white" establishments were left alone on that stellar night, and will benefit in many ways from the ripple effect...

Fucking racists! Let them explain their way out of this one!

I agree Maury. I think there were definitely racist overtones to this bust. In addition its hard to figure how if the reasoning given for the raids was to save women from human trafficking why it was when they didnt find any victims they turned the women they did find working in these premises into criminals, handcuffed them, humiliated them and charged them.

Its an outrage.

A bunch of pissed off cops looking for the next best victim because they
didn't find what they were sure they would find.
Can you imagine, like in that news video, the girl in white being in
handcuffs looked like she didn't weigh more than 105 pounds at best.

Oh yah, she was a real threat all right!

I know from reading the Province story that the cops are "convinced" that there are people being held against their will. Then there is no follow up report to back that claim up or disprove it. So people will assume that there in fact are people being held against their will whether or not its true.

The best thing they could do in Richmond IMO is use the exorbitant business license and employee fees (the women have to pay to work in Richmond) and hire a half decent english teacher and make english proficiency part of the licensing requirements.

Its a selfish request. I wouldn't mind having a conversation once in a while with some of these women and so few know enough to manage even a simple conversation.

They did say briefly that there were no illegals found but an apology
from those responsible for this whole fiasco to the businesses in question
should be in order.
I'm sure that will be the day that happens. The papers aren't going to
offer any stories other than what Ian Mulgrew wrote in his article
showing what a joke the whole thing was.

They still want everyone to believe that the cops were doing the right
thing even after the outcome of finding no criminal activity or illegals.
The cops are never wrong you know.

Oh but George, the investigation isn't over yet according to LE,
once they have completed their investigation they will do a follow up
media circus showing these girls working flipping hamburgers.
Wouldn't that make a great scenario for those in victim services to
witness. They will be standing and applauding that the girls have found
meaningful work and were saved from the clutches of sex slavery.

Although I must admit I find it difficult to understand how anyone with
handcuffs on is going to complete that task. Especially if they have
a criminal record hanging on them for misdemeanor charges.

Just wondering if anyone been to a MP/AMP since the raid.

I was at Blue Sea the other day (ya I know it's not an AMP), and it was dead as a door knob. This was an evening, and I talked to the towel guy....the normal guy there was on vacation, so this guy can actually speak english. He told me that things have been really slow since the raid, and his regular clients are just asking to sit in the spa area only, no massage. Looks like the raid spooked a lot of people. If business stay this slow, it's only a matter of time when some of the AMP/MP starts to closed down (if not already).

"the lady said that the cops victimized the girls even more" the cops actually "stole" the businesses monies by taking the money in the tills and not giving reciepts for any of it. They refused when asked. I know of a couple places that lost over $4000 at each one. Now what was the real motive behind the raids.....the cops wanted their part of the loot!!

The whole thing seems really fucked up, they are targeting the asian establishments because they believe women are slaves there. They believe organized crime is involved.

I suspect the only place that can happen is in the unlicensed micro's.
