Have any of you ever had a concussion?
How were you diagnosed?
How long did it take to recover?

For me, I was hit by a falling tree about 12 years ago. Wasn't diagnosed until many years later when describing the range of symptoms, and was told I "most likely" had a concussion.

Can't say i've ever fully recovered. I still sometimes suffer anxiety and bad headaches, and odd sensations at night where I can't sleep, but it may also be PTSD from another incident years earlier.

Yes. A car accident with a fractured skull, among other things. I was out cold for an hour. Hospitalized. The physical healing took a few months, the headaches never went away. I still get migranes.

I have had a few:
Hockey 3
Rugby 2
Snowboarding 2
Every so often (usually after a long flight) I have a dizzy spell. but I rarely get headaches...

One in my early twenties, playing pick-up hockey without a helmet (duh). I was out cold. A friend took me to VGH on the back of a motorcycle (double duh).

I didn't really notice any after-effects immediately thereafter. I can't say that I have any problems now attributable to that event. I have lots of aches and pains but I attribute them to a lifetime of battering myself in one way or another.

Yes, over a decade ago but still get headaches and occasional dizzy spells.

Get checked by a specialist if you have problems! Go not push your luck by trying to tough it out.

A friend had a bad concussion from falling off his bicycle. Over ten years he developed encephalopathy and is now a vegetable. He used to play hockey and baseball, now he can't feed himself or control his bowels.

I didn't have dizzy spells, but about 2-3 years of off and on light-headed feelings. Almost like being high, or drunk. It would be like, if I gave in to the feeling, I could just keel over and go to sleep, but I could fight it. Eventually, I just noticed they weren't happening any more.

Try and see a neurologist. The scarring shows up on scans.

I've had a few......dizzy spells, and feeling like I'd fall down.
They eventually faded away, but the scars remain.
PTSD is something you may want to address , and there are very good programs out there for citizens that are non veterans.......If you've suffered trauma by accident, someone else's intentions, or a violent act, your not alone, trust me.
I've seen even the toughest War Horse, improve, and carry on with a healthy meaningful life.

I've had numerous concussions from sports, a MVA and last summer a real dinger while working on the property.

Guesstimate that in total I've reached 6 now and if you read up on 'minor concussions' they are all additive in the end it can be a source of some neurological conditions.

The one last summer made me sensitive to light which was a real bummer given we were enjoying one of those nice long stretches in the summer. Also the dizziness made me reluctant to drive for a while. That and a persistent headache made me seek a calm, quiet and a darkened place for a few weeks.
CT scan indicated a head trauma was received but their prognosis was fairly positive.

I have had two diagnosed and am pretty certain I've had several others starting in childhood.

A year and a half ago I was knocked out and spent a few weeks being hyper light and sound sensitive, and experienced dizziness and nausea. I basically spent the first two weeks in a dark quiet room. I returned to sports too soon and took another knock which set me back again. Since then I experience regular naseau (several times a week) sometimes just getting out of bed, other times when I push myself physically.

I have to admit that I never took concussions seriously, and probably still should exercise more caution, but I also don't want to give up the activities that I really enjoy.

Its been almost 8 years since I suffered bad concussion number three.
My doctor made it very clear the next one would likely be fatal as my brain cannot take another hit that hard.
So i am much more careful now than i was in years past.
Still I suffer from extreme light sensitivity to the point I wear sunglasses indoors if the building is too bright. I cannot look at a computer or phone screen for extended periods of time. I get headaches for no reason. My balance isn't nearly as good as it used to be, and more.
Be careful as they get worse with each one.
