Just wondering if you did how many did you keep in a cage? I read that its a solitary bird. Males will fight over space in the cage and the store once had a female male in one cage and the female was stressed out she bit her feathers off and had to be put in bird rehab.
I only have one canary as I just went by what I read that one is ok, just that it looks so lonely : (

just google 'caring for canaries' and be prepared to spend the night reading the results... by morning you can hire yourself out as an expert

I have had mine since Dec. 26, 14. It is a male or at least the shop says so. No singing at all, just a few chirps when I play some youtube canary singing videos for it.

Gee Honda, that's only about 40 days --- and playing some youtube canary singing videos isn't going to cut it --- 'cause that little sucker probably doesn't even understand English.

You should probably enroll him in the school of Vocal Pedagogy.

It is used in the teaching of singing and assists in defining what singing is, how singing works, and how proper singing technique is accomplished.

I bet that within a couple of months he'll be able to belt out a nice rendition of 'Star spangled banner' or Frank's "I did it my way"....:thumb:..:D

dont have a canary but do have 5 other birds. 1 Lovebird and 4 Budgies. They all in same room but Lovebird by herself and the budgies (all male) in their own cage.
It is ok to have just one lovebird just as long as you give it lots of attention. Basically you become the mate. Got the lovebird when she was a baby (15yrs ago)
Budgies are 5 to 10+ years old.

I used to have female budgies but the lovebird would fight them. so only males now. They all get along great and are out of cage when i am home. Lovebird is pretty much
the queen of the budgies. She seems to like one budgie more than the others. (and he really likes her) she lets him preen her and be with her and even into her cage (which i have
heard could be bad as female lovebirds really territorial and protective of their house)

I know with most birds ,to identify their gender you gently spread one wing out...Females have two rows of primary feathers and males have one row....Or is it the other way around?
I don't know but Google it...I'm a Cattle Rancher, in the sorting pen when the cows are really crowded we indentify their sex as "One Holers and Two Holers"....much easier.
Oh...and the females are built larger in birds.
