Anybody here ever try telephone personals?

I hope this is the right spot for this thread and if it is not feel free to move it where it belongs.

I took advantage of a telephone personals line (I don't know if I am allowed to mention names as I don't want to advertise on their behalf) and it seemed to me that alot of the women online were making themselves available for a fee.

If that is the case has anyone taken one of the ladies up on her offer? I am contemplating it, but if it isn't worth the time or $$, I won't bother.

From personal experience using those 'lines' I can tell you that many of them are streetwalkers. There's one who advertises herself as a "redheaded delight". She does have a sexy voice I will say, but after hearing that voice on the news while being interviewed about the prostitute slayings and seeing what she actually looks like, it sent chills down my spine. She might have been pretty once. Sad really. No doubt about it, that was her.

Then there's the horror stories. The drug addicts or alcoholics. Girls wanting to hook up, you arrive and there's 3-4 "friends" of hers waiting to roll you. Underage girls who look 18 and who have "lost their id". It's the risk you take.

Trust me man, save the money you would use on those personals systems (they are addictive and hard to stay off of) and either A)Call Ashley B)Call Annalise Lane C)Or visit a fine MP establishment in our city.

But if you think you want to use them to meet someone and start dating, I would still use their internet counterparts.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Although I can carry myself well, I don't relish the thought of an attempted or successful roll.

I have seen a some good reviews on Ashley and Annalise, so I should probably 'get back in the saddle' with one of those two. As always, I hope it ends up being money well spent.

I have to echo what Lenard has said. When you arrive at your desination, you never really know what is waiting for you behind the other side of that door. I had knife pulled on me one time but managed to get out ok and unharmed. Stick with the controlled enviroments of an MP.

The impression I got after awhile is that while women weren't necessarily lying about what they looked like on there, they certainly had an inflated ego about themselves. You know, they've been told by their parents and friends that they look great, but the reality to what the average person sees them like is quite different. The advice the guys gave is very good. If you're looking for a real date, the internet is probably better or else good old fashioned bars. If you want to pay and play, MP's and independents are the way to go.

I agree completely - I went through this phase back in the 90's after my marriage failed and believe me, you will NOT find any women to take home to mom on here. I can only imagine that it has become even worse since my experiences. I will just touch on one experience: I became good friends with a pretty lady through one of those phone lines; unfortunately, she was seeing other men through the same service (at the same time) and ended up catching herpes from one of them. Thank goodness I found out in time before we became intimate.

So where does a recently divorced, early 30's guy with a beer belly go to meet women. I moved to Edmonton when I was already married and I have no clue as to the bar scene here. OMG - I am pathetic.

Your best bet is online dating sites like lavalife.

Not sure if speed dating is still around, but there was at least 3 such services.

If you want to try the bar scene, keep in mind that most of them cater to the 18-24 age crowd. The only places for 30-somethings I can think of are Ceilis, Overtime, Sherlock Holmes and Gas Pump (all downtown), or O'Byrne's in Old Strathcona.

Actually another very good site other then lavalife is match.com At least they try and find you people who are looking for the same thing you are and aren't just wanting your cash.

Eharmony was a waste for me really expensive, and the people I had emailed or met on there just did not have any real chemistry with.

I would do match.com over again if forced to choose between it and the telephone personals!
