Any Physics majors out there?

Does anybody know anything about lifters? One of my friends wants to build a spaceship and he figures that this is his best bet at accomplishing this feat. He's even making plans on constructing his spacesuit :D . He'd been using a Tesla coil as his power source with nada, but switched to a computer moniter (?) and, apparently, the lifter will at least wiggle a bit.

I don't know enough to confirm or dispute either the Biefeld-Brown Effect or the ionic-breeze theory. I'm a little skeptical, but what do I know.

Any ideas?

Hmm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Maverick73 taught me about a "G" (sp?) at some point...I think he's Mr. Physics!

What's the digits anyways...9.81 or something??

Mav?

I believe that you are referring to 9.81 m/s(squared), the acceleration an object feels due to the force of gravity. So, the force of gravity is F = m x g, where m = mass of an object, g = 9.81 m/sec^2.

LOL, I think that I've been reading too many reviews; it took me a while to figure out that "G" and "digits" were not sexual references.

Ah... memories of our little excursion on the Granville Bridge... I mentioned one of my past cars being able to corner at more than 1.0 G on the street... and Ash thought a "G" was a grand ($1000) or a "gram" (of weed or something, only known to her because of what is seen in movies of course ;) ) or the logo for Guess...

I then had to explain to her that I was referring to Gravity... and that many car magazines measure a car's cornering ability around a skidpad of varying diameter in G's... and that depending on the diameter of the skidpad, the number would be different and therefore numbers between magazines cannot really be compared... u then also get the effects of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure... manufacturers tolerances, alignment of the suspension, the surface friction of the skidpad, driver error...etc. etc. etc. and it just gets way too complicated...

The 9.81 number changes depending on various factors, but that is beyond the scope of this thread... for the purposes of this discussion 9.81 works just fine... in fact, it works on several different levels... :)

As for the other stuff the original poster was talking about, I have no clue... I barely made it through my physics classes! I think I got a D in nuclear physics... It's amazing I'm in charge of a nuclear plant with the grades I got...

The lifter described has a payload of 60 grams, so your friend must be pretty light if he intends to be a passenger.
LOL. I know. My friend actually wants to build one of these:

And figures that he can do it with enough power supplied to his lifter. I don't really have the heart to tell him that I'm not very hopeful for his results. He's been endearingly optimistic. :D

No sh*t, the man wants to build a banshee
Vertical takeoff technology is pretty well established ... you might want to look the harrier jump jet in the British air force or US marine arsenal.
Building it that small is probably not possible because the craft can't generate lift to keep the vehicle flying when it's moving around.

I believe Ashley may have been talking about the Gravitational constant. Big "G" is 6.67e-11 N m^2/kg^2. Little "g" is the acceleration of gravity at the surface of the earth which is (as aznboi noted) 9.81 m/sec^2.

Big "G" is part of Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation. Every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. This force acts along the line joining the two particles.

Miss Fame can move to the head of the class now. ;)

Come on Mav,

That's why you don't have a gf. Them broads don't want to hear about that shit.

Instead talk about how you volunteer with handicapped kids on weekends, donate blood, and make up other shit like that. They'll be hand washing your underwear and cleaning your house in no time. haha..

It's actually the ghost, but yeah, I know what you mean. He's not looking at jet technology as, I believe, he figures the lifters would be more efficient/smaller? and he wouldn't have to deal with the heat problems associated with fuel; and I think that he also wants to be able fly this in space. Anyways, he still needs to get a balsa wood construct elevated first, so he's still got a long ways to go.

Yeah, I read to the blind 2 hours per week, donate blood as fast as my body can produce it, and I help conserve water by showering only every 2 days... damnit, I thought with a resume like that, hot chicks would be lining up around the block for me!
