Any advice for selling a vehicle for the first time? Vancouver area

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for someone selling a vehicle for the first time? In terms of researching, websites to post ads on, steps commonly missed and any other safety concerns that wouldn't immediately come to mind.

I remember hearing that news story a few years back of Timothy Bosma selling his vehicle on CL, and he was murdered after taking two potential buyers on a test drive. I don't expect alot of pitfalls like that, but I guess they are out there. Any advice helps!

In terms of where/hoh to sell, is this more a $20,000 or a $2000 car? There's a lot of potential buyers on kijiji - just make sure to price a bit higher than you are willing to accept (almost all buyers will try to beat you down on price). Also don't be shaken by vultures who offer you next to nothing - its a business for them and if they make 200 calls and get one person to take their lowball offer, score!

Whichever avenue you choose to advertise never include your address nor show the car at your residence. Meet prospective buyers at a gas station or a mall or wherever but not your home. It's a hassle but better safe than sorry. Good luck :thumb:

Robert: do you think autotrader is worth the cost? Although I don't know what that cost is at this point. I heard it's mainly dealer listings in there as opposed to private sale.

Sbill: ya I'll post on kijiji too. I was mainly thinking CL. I've also just been seeing on YouTube how some people make income off flipping cars.

Stamkos: I totally agree. I've been seeing that tip on YouTube as well. Better to be safe than sorry. I've seen stories of people being murdered on more than one occasion thru a CL vehicle sale.
