I just built a brand new house recently with a new lawn. I noticed outside the lawn there were mini piles of dirt and when I went to take a closer look, there were hundred is ants in different areas with little holes on the edge of the grass! Anyone have this same problem and whats the best solution to rid of this?

What kind of ants? How big? If they are carpenter ants I would launch an all out attack.

It's a big year for ants.

Everyone I know is getting invaded.

If they're getting to your home, bait them with a sugar and borax mix.

I have had a huge ant problem ever since moving into my house a few years ago. Usually, I use Ant B Gone to get rid of it (liquid drops in a tiny red bottle). I found it to be sort of effective...

Now, I also have a brick path and I knew there were a ton of ants under it because I could see all the holes (and the ants).

The absolute best solution for such a situation is the new spray foam they sell now ($6 at Home Depot). It's a can that sprays foam through a tiny nozzle hose that you ram down into the the ant colony.

It is so satisfying.

Sometimes, you spray and the foam comes right out...that's not considered a good hit...

The good hits are when you ram the hose down a hole, press the trigger, and it just keeps on spraying...seconds pass...and then you see the foam pop up another hole a few feet away....then you go "Ahhhh" and get a smoke ;)

This spray doesn't work as well with holes in dirt, though...harder to get the hose into the hole. With bricks, the ants need to make the hole straight for a little bit.

Please people.. try to stay away from poisonous petrochemicals.

Borax is not harmful to the environment, and IS effective but may take a little longer to work. Plus a big box of it is about 5 or 6 bucks and you can use it to deodorize and fight stains in your stinky laundry.

My neighbour got pest control in to spray. I didn't. Her place is much better now. I still bump into the nests when digging in the garden.

Talk to a pest control place about a safe way to get rid of them.

It happens every year at approx this time. Bit of spray will take care of it.

i think they all just hatched ??? because i have ants too !! and i dont know what to do about them. I had one in my bed. !!! in the recycling box just make sure you rinse everything !!!! or even just get a hug box with a lid and use that until the recycling goes out. That helped my problem a bit, however i have no idea why there are so many this year :(
