CNN aired the last episode of Parts Unknown tonight focusing on the city of Berlin. They followed up the final episode with a rather touching tribute to his memory with interviews from his colleagues, clearly he touched each and every one of their lives deeply. Anthony also left us with something to think about, with some good wine, local food and good company we can all find commonality and celebration of life no matter where we are on this planet.

I thought it was a nice tribute from all the other on air journalists from CNN.

The Berlin episode was one of the most interesting ones for me. A city rich in history that was almost totally demolished by end of WWII and under the control of Russia for decades. I have friends who played hockey in Germany before the Wall came down. Going through the checkpoints on the way to a game was intimidating for them.

right here and now
I am having a hard time with this one. I really loved his show, & his passion for what he did, & I can imagine from what I saw & read Of him, that when the Black Dog howled, there were nightmarish thoughts in his head...I hope he can rest easy.
Some of these hit us harder than others.
Kate Spade I had no real idea who she was- so to me was just another celebrity "tragedy"
Anthony Bourdain hits so much closer to home on numerous levels. I will miss him.
Speaking of the black dog howling....

"I suspect people in other countries Bourdain visited felt he understood them too, spoke for them, and saw them for who they were: ordinary people with real names, lives filled with hope, love stories, heartbreak, and laughter. He cared about people outside the lens of violence, beyond the headlines and the reductionist clichés. He broke down the barrier of the other, especially in countries with long-standing political enmity with the United States, like Iran and Cuba. Americans probably learned more about the world watching his shows than any news programs.

I don’t know why Bourdain decided to end his life. But I know he understood places and people intuitively. He grasped their pain, their intensity, and their humanity, in the way that only someone with great empathy could—the kind of empathy that comes with raw vulnerability and deep creativity, the kind that can bring with it inner demons."
