Another trip to Medellin

On my 4th trip to Colombia, in Medellin. I used to go to Thailand alot but as I aged the flight really started to kill me. Colombia is about 6 hours from YVR to Mexico city then about 4 hours to Medellin. Facebook is huge for finding girls in Medellin not so much any other city here. prices for a facebook girl about 200K Colombian pesos which I will shorten to COP. Usually you will also pay the taxi fare each way which should never really be more than 20K COP. Depending on your Spanish skills girls will stay anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours, my Spanish is crap so I am more than happy for them to leave when I am done. Tinder and bumble are also good places to meet girls, though not as safe as facebook, most girls I know on facebook post alot of personal info so the odds of them being a made up account to rip off gringos is slim.

English is very rare here, Spanish is Colombian Spanish, I met an American guy here who lives in Mexico and he told me the Spanish spoken in Mexico is very different than Colombia. Cost of living is very cheap, I have a nice airbnb with a pool for under $50 CAN a night in the expensive area of town(El Poblado). Nice place but freaking hilly, think New West on steroids, I noved back to my favourite area Laureles. Every girl and there mother father and 3rd cousin uses whatsapp in Colombia so download it. 3somes are easy to arrange, if you hit it off with a girl ask her if she has a friend for a trio, 90% of the time she will. If booking an airbnb always check the rules alot are now saying no sex tourism, many have a doorman which can be a good thing as they will take a copy of the girls ID(cedula) so if anything happens you have recourse.

Was a blast, allready booked again for May.
Facebook girls just search people in Medellin, add girls and after you get a few friend requests will start pouring in, Facebook is very Medellin only, not much luck with it in either Bogota or Cartagena

Medellin has the best looking girls, Cartagena is very touristy, you see prices in USD. Bogota is worth a trip for a few days, if you can salsa dance or want a trans, go to Cali.

I was going to try Cartegena for my first dip into Columbia. I know its touristy and more $$$ but as a total gringo cant speak spanish it seems like a safer place to start in Columbia especially as a solo trip.

Read the prices for the hottest street girls jumped to $100-200 usd short time post pandemic. That made me reconsider and now im going to Tijuana instead. If i am going to pay those prices i dont have to fly all the way to Columbia. The girls in HK club will be as attractive or more at only 100 a pop in an easier and closer environment

I cant speak for Cartagena but prices have not gone up in Medellin, actually if you look at the rise in the dollar compared to the Peso Medellin is cheaper than it was 6 months ago. My guess you read what the girls are asking in Cartagena, some stupid tourists pay it, but if she quotes US dollars I just so Oh im not American, bye

There have been so many scopolomine druggings in Medelin and Columbia, it made me reconsider going. This is getting to be a big problem targeting tourists and Police dont really care

Thanks for your post. I'm thinking of returning to Medellin. Was there before (with wife) and stayed in the El Poblado area. I've heard good things re the Laureles area. Think I would stay there if I go again, for a change. I really liked Bogota. I was actually expecting to like Medellin a lot more than Bogota before I went but in the end I might have even liked Bogota a bit more. For pooning though I could see Medellin being better but didn't have the opportunity to do that (you know, due to wifey ) Thinking of Cartagena next time as well. Drag it is touristy but beyond that I have heard good things.

If you check out the stories most of the guys are drunk, or not practicing basic common sense, like don't leave your drink unattended. Also, it's Colombia, not Columbia

I spent 2 weeks in Bogota just before the pandemic, I feel it is worth seeing, but 2 weeks was a bit long. The main thing I like about Medellin is the weather, it's called the city of eternal spring for a reason.

Cartagena has a beach so that is a plus, though I wouldn't call it a great beach, no comparision to Thailand, Greece or from what I have heard Florida. I didn't find Cartagena any better for locals that speak English, I tried to stay in El Poblado but the hills just killed me, I like to walk around but hated it there, I actually had a place booked for a week and left after 2 days back to Laureles. Not what you mentioned but the scopolomine drugging all seem to be from tinder girls. I had 2 tinder matches that offered a 3some right off the bat, I declined. Besides casas it was all facebook girls and next trip in may will probablly be all facebook girls again

Yes i agree, But there are even some veterans and locals that have been drugged via other means - apparently it can be blown in your face. There are gangs that target gringos/tourist on tinder etc. Also alot of poor Venezuelans turing to crime doing robbing/muggings and girls working with scopolomine gangs. If you do a search on youtube o was shocked at the number of reports/victims which seems common there now.

Although the risk is probably small for wise and alert mongerers, For me its not worth the risk at this time, especially since i have never been there, cant speak Spanish, and the fact some people have died from the drugging (they redose you to keep you sleeping) Also the police seem indifferent to helping vicitms and seem to not care. There are other places i can go right now where i dont have to always worry if the girl is going to drug and rob me. One of my favorite things is picking up freelancers and club girls and i would always have scopolomine in the back of mind there.

I do hope to go there someday but it seems now post-pandemic there is quite a bit of crime and safety issues

Fair enough, I dont find it unsafe, I mean if your read news reports from Vancouver you would figure everyone is getting mugged and attacked daily, Regarding scopolomine being blown in your face pretty sure they would need to have about 5 pounds of it to actually affect you. I agree on Thailand being safer though that also comes with a few caveats. Laureles the area I stay in, I find fairly safe, El Centro well think about the DTES, not really 2 places I want to hang out, Though I have spent time in El Centro during the day, but would not stay after dark. I guess its just what you feel comfortable with. I wouldnt call it the safest city on earth but far from the most unsafe.
