And another sad election coming, probably May 2

With respect - the idea of the liberals reduced to 35 seats is ridiculous - as is 100+ for the NDP.

Not disputing that Layton's made some gains - but such a titanic shift in less than a week strains credibility. Analysis of the Quebec data in particular shows that the NDP may be a mile wide but an inch deep, and will not translate into actual seats.

Don't be shocked when May 2nd winds up pretty much similar to where we left off.

So is that your official entry in your office poll, Al? (I am still trying to imagine what kind of office has a seat poll).

So -- if you are wrong and Harper wins a minority -- and he has said that he MUST win a majority -- what should he do? Just give up and let the GG allow the opposition to form a government? Present a budget that will pass the House and try to provide good government? Whine to mommy that he won and the other kids won't let him play in the sandbox? Resign as leader and move to Scottsdale?

Yes, yes, but the question was "What should Harper do?" if he is given a minority govenment. The answer requires a moral judgement based on his repeated statements and campaign platform, not a prediction of events predicated on particular swings in results.

Should he stick to his previous budget and hope it passes muster? Should he make the compromises necessary to ensure it passes the House? Should he just ask the reckless coalition to go to the GG right off the bat? Should he take his toys and go home?

Great campaign by the Green Party in the Saanich/Gulf Islands riding of Elizabeth May. The Green Party will finally have its first MP. :) :)

The Conservatives surely took this election in the Saanich/Gulf Islands seriously even allocating $ 150 Million for a helicopter base in the area. Looks like a good fight, something to look into on May 2nd. :) :)

In the past, I have not voted for the green party, strictly because I didn't think they would get in. This year, I thought that if everybody thought like me, they will never get in. They've been around long enough, now, that I think they have a good chance. The green party supports a lot of issues that are important to me, so I've decided to vote Green :D

Usually, I'm not passionate over politics, but I love Canada, and I love being Canadian. This looney wants to turn us into a state of the USA. He must be stopped!!!!! If you don't believe me, read everything, you can possibly find about him. Google is your friend.

4 things you can do to stop Harper
I will be voting FOR Harper, all this fear mongering/hidden agenda stuff makes it clear he is on the right path, BESIDES iggy supported harper, so he must be doing something right

One poster said earlier, they have to vote for the person they like the least to get the prime minister they want.

So lets see we have four parties to chose from. The Tea Party Conservatives, who try to picture Iggy as not being Canadian for working abroad (shades of the Birthers in the Excited States), the Liberal party that really doesn't have a clear vision, the NDP who would tax everything in site, and the Green Party, not sure what they could bring to the table in Parliament, maybe recycled toilet paper.

What if there was only a spot on the ballot that said "none of the above" I really don't like the any of the candidates in my riding, so "none of the above" would be an appropriate vote and not a spoiled ballot. But since its no there, I guess I will have to hold my nose and vote for the person or party with the most believable lies.

As for the polls showing the NDP getting close to 100 seats. I don't think so. In fact I hate polls, I'm sick and tired from people trying to come up with the outcome before the ballots are counted. No wonder voter turnout is so pathetic, if they feel the candidate they want to win can't, then why vote.

I vote as I always do, but nobody ever knows who I vote for, isn't that what a secret ballot is. So when polsters phone, I just say there are two things I don't discuss, religion and who I am going to vote for and hang up.

The whole "Hidden Agenda" thing worked before Harper gained full control of the Conservative party, it doesn't work now. The funny thing is they try to sell the "Dictatorial" tag, if you don't firmly ride herd on the Conservative caucus - you get people like Brad Trost deciding to resurrect dead issues.

I've enjoyed watching Ignatieff against Layton, now that Layton is the threat. Ignatieff against Harper looked like maybe the tags they tried to hang on Harper were correct - Ignatieff against Layton exposes just how "entitled" the Liberals think they are.
Nope, you're not biased at all. LOL

I will put my bet on yet another Conservative minority government; the only difference being that Layton will be the leader of he opposition, switching with the Liberals. That would at least be an improvement, so the election isn't as useless as I thought at the beginning of this thread.

All the polls are really no different than if they were about sports or entertainment. It is like asking random people who the best singers are: Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, or Rhianna?, or who should win the Stanley Cup. Answers are meaningless in any real way.

A minority is also appropriate, given the choices. None of them deserve a majority. Harper has been abysmal in the campaign, offering no positive vision of any sort, and he still has a large number of simple-minded fundy loonies in his caucus that I wouldn't want in real power -- Harper would have a harder time getting them to keep their nutball opinions to themselves. The Liberals have little to offer. Layton is appealing -- and certainly wouldn't "wreck the economy" if he became PM supported by the Liberals....but would also have a lot of useless twits in his caucus if that many were elected.

Back to the obvious. They will have to learn to get along and work for US. It is the only option if we want to avoid political chaos.

Anyone who values democracy will never vote for any of the three mainstream parties.

We need radical changes to the electoral process and it will never happen with any of those parties.

After 20 years of voting Liberal or Conservative and getting exactly the same results (getting fucked over) I am willing to vote NDP and give them a shot.

They can't possibly do any worse than what the 2 mainstream parties have done.

And if you say different - I do believe you have been brainwashed.

With Michael Ignatieff, the press took advantage of the time Ignatieff gave them. They had him admit that there is no way he can win, they had him admit that he was going to replaced soon after May 2nd, they had him admit that his campaign failed to deliver a compelling message to Canadians.
That's interesting; because in this article, he talks about being "here to win on the 2nd of May". Care to share your source?

with 1 exception the liberals didn't even open a campaign offices in edmonton

and with his proposals/promises from 1979/1981 they probably did the rights thing

of course if Iggy was around in 79/81 he would knows why they don't get the votes, and not try to repeat the same moves

how much severance/settlement pay will Rae give Iggy?
