Either he's been living in a cave for the past two decades or is very stupid. Either way, answering this question is a waste of the Heath Nurse's time. Methinks it's some idiot trying to have some fun.

From what little I understand about HIV (note I am not a nurse or doctor) for unprotcted anal sex, your risk is about 1 in 200. If you were on the receiving end (someone inserts their penis into your anus), your risk would be double, about 1 in 100.

Do what the others have said, go get tested. I read somewhere that tests more than 12 weeks after exposure are considered definitive.

I believe the CDC says any test 3 months + exposure is conclusive
They also have a NAAT test that detects the virus in the blood.
Its 90% accurate 12 days post exposure

This is what I was told by the CDC

I believe this statistic is valid IF THE PARTNER ACTUALLY HAS HIV.

Agency and Independent professionals usually will care enough about themselves and their business to get tested very frequently, usually every 2 to 3 months. They also would not be engaging in this kind of service.

This is true, you cant contract HIV if both parties are negative.
Chances are she didnt have it, if she does I think there are lots of legal issues involved?

Exactly, what are the odds that anyone selling bareback anal is an IV drug addict...

Of course, I guess I should have mentioned that. It just seems obvious to me that unless there's a virus already present, it can't be created out of thin air.

HIV, as viruses go, seems to be fairly difficult to transmit. Also, lots of studies (go use Google if you want the numbers) show that most SPs don't have HIV. The margin outside of "most" is largely populated by the poverty-stricken who are living on the street or in areas like the Downtown Eastside. Track marks on the arms are another giveaway. Most SPs are experts on their own health and well-versed in protecting themselves from STDs, more power to them!

Hi sexym1

We would call this type of sex high risk. This means if the person has HIV there is a good chance that it will pass to you if you continue to have sex this way. It doesn’t mean you will automatically get it the first time but this could happen. It is sometimes hard to work out the exact risk as there are so many factors such as: Do they have HIV? Are they taking HIV medication? Do they have an untreated STI?

It is hard to know if the person has HIV but if you had unprotected anal sex with them chances are that they may have unprotected sex with other people which could put them at a higher risk for HIV.

It can certainly be a stressful time. I would suggest getting a HIV test. If you are in the Vancouver area you can come to our Bute street clinic or the STI clinic at 655 west 12th. These two clinics are offering a HIV test which has 90% accuracy after 2 weeks.

Here is a link to STI clinics:
