]I have been fighting a cold for weeks and then this week it turned into a big flu with headache and fever and really bad congestion and all that. so a really dear friend drove around and brought me a bottle of whiskey and two liters of milk and made me a hot toddy. This was yesterday around lunch time.

I slept like a log until 5pm and when i woke up I felt so much better. I had another one at bed time and this morning I feel great. I wonder how it works? Do the viruses drink up all the booze cause I did not feel even tipsy and I don't drink at all and it was a pretty big shot glass we used.

I know people have been making hot toddies for a long time, I guess mostly with rum, which I hate the taste of, and I wonder why we don't just drink them every night and prevent colds altogether LOL!

Now my friend is all worried that I will become an alcoholic :D

Mmmmmm....Blueberry tea.....best thing to drink after skiing all day. (Earl Grey tea and Grand Marnier.)

Hope you get better soon, Laurel! Maybe time for COLD-FX? Even the placebo effect is a good thing. (I'm not convinced of it's effectiveness.)

I have all ways found that beating a cold or even the flue .. i had to sweet .. That is what a fever does .. but when i had one or not I would just drink hot stuff and blanket up in bed to just sweet like mad.. The high body temp would kill the virus. But I allwas had to be care full tha i did not get a chill because i was socked . Had to get up have a hot shower and put on dry PJ and keep warm ..

Prob the the Toddy is doing the same raising your body temp and the booze kills any bacteria in your gut and throat..

I have a "cure"...it is not pleasant and it is not nice.....it is brutal to be honest....clean out your bathroom sink meticulously.....pull the plunger or insert the plug and fill the clean sink with hot water....mix in a table spoon of vinnegar in that hot water...snort it up your snot locker...this hurts bad and I mean BAD...makes a slurpee burn feel like something fun...IT HURTS....but it works for sinus related maladies

Mistressfreya,

Blueberry tea is Amaretto, Grande Marnier and usually Orange Pekoe Tea. I do prefer Earl Grey or Black Currant myself.

It is called nasal irrigation but I have only heard of doing it with a salt water solution. I had to do it daily for two weeks prior to getting a deviated septum fixed. There are various things sold to do it but an earball was recommended by the Doc and worked well for me.

I was travelling in SE Asia when I got some sort of head cold, sore throat etc that would not go away after about a week. I tried all the off the shelf stuff and none worked. I then met a Scotsman who declared that if I did my best to put away a half bottle of Johnny Walker Red my troubles would soon go away.

It worked :D
