Would You Go To Bed With Me Tonight?

If you were a man walking across the campus of Florida State University in 1978, an attractive young woman might have approached you and said these exact words: “I have been noticing you around campus. I find you to be attractive. Would you go to bed with me tonight?”

If you were that man, you probably would have thought that you had just gotten incredibly lucky. But not really. You were actually an unwitting subject in an experiment designed by the psychologist Russell Clark.

Clark had persuaded the students of his social psychology class to help him find out which gender, in a real-life situation, would be more receptive to a sexual offer from a stranger. The only way to find out, he figured, was to actually get out there and see what would happen. So young men and women from his class fanned out across campus and began propositioning strangers.

The results weren’t very surprising. Seventy-five percent of guys were happy to oblige an attractive female stranger (and those who said no typically offered an excuse such as, “I’m married”). But not a single woman accepted the identical offer of an attractive male. In fact, most of them demanded the guy leave her alone.

At first the psychological community dismissed Clark’s experiment as a trivial stunt, but gradually his experiment gained first acceptance, and then praise for how dramatically it revealed the differing sexual attitudes of men and women. Today it’s considered a classic. But why men and women display such different attitudes remains as hotly debated as ever.

I would have figured the percentage of guys would have been in the 90th percentile, to be honest...:D

I can relate to that. When men approach me in a social setting putting sex on the table (not work related! :p ) I turn them down and feel somewhat insulted.

On the other hand, I like to approach men I feel very primitively sexually attracted to and have a sexual encounter with them. However, those men sometimes want more than a relationship but I just don't have time for it, and put them in the category of "fuck only".

I have categories:

-Men I'd only fuck
-Men I'd just be friends with
-Men I could care less if they accidentally met with some horrible unfortunate life-ending accident
-Men I'd marry
-Men I'd be in a relationship with but never marry.

But back to the topic, I can't explain why I feel insulted when I am approached for sex, but feel more turned on when I approach someone for sex. Possibly could have to do with wanting to be in control...

Well, not to completely stereotype the genders, but men can usually have sex just be sex - with no emotions involved - and women seem to want the emotional aspect more than anything...

And before I get my head torn off, this does not apply to EVERY single person out there, just what I have observed....

I think it's related to the saying:

"Men need to have sex to feel loved, and women need to feel loved to have sex."

A lot of men think they are Don Juans, Casanovas, sexual conquistadors, whatever. BAH HUMBUG, THEY'RE ONLY FOOLING THEMSELVES. They are nothing. They are less than nothing. The women are everything. It is the WOMEN who control the men, PERIOD, whether we realize it or not or whether we like it or not.
Well yea when a guy picks me up I don't know if he's ACTUALLY interested or just in it for the sex, so I get mixed up and I hate feeling that way. When I pick a guy up, I know EXACTLY what I want and what I'm aiming for. If they want more than I do, I throw them away :p

I remember reading about a similar experiment that Playboy magazine conducted many years ago (late 70's, early 80's). Difference was, it was a one-man show as he paraded up and down a busy street in downtown New York City, approaching every woman (presumably solitaire) he encountered.

If anything, his approach was more succinct, as he simply asked "wanna fuck?" Results were, not surprisingly, predictable, as the vast majority of responses were negative, running the gamut from bemusement to indifference. A few actually assaulted him, and only one out of the 100 he asked actually agreed to accept his offer...

Sperminator, you are dangerously close to breaking the code, are you sure you are even a man?

That's just what we want them to think and the only way we can keep the control, the only way we perpetuate the secret is because it is unbelievable to women. Sheesh, we couldn't just keep dragging them around by the hair, luckily some genious realized how nice it is to have our supper prepared and the laundry done. ;)

In the modern industrialized world, a woman will choose a husband based on the man's financial stability and his physical attractiveness whereas a man will choose a wife (if you can really call it "choosing") based on the woman's physical attractiveness and that's it. In the animal world, a female will choose a mate based on his physical attractiveness and his physical prowess, two factors that will help both of them care for their offspring. The only thing missing in the animal world is money.

Basically, to sum it up, in the human industrialized world, for a man to win over a female, he must have a lot of money or at the very least a decent job and he must not look like Sperminator.
I disagree, I didn't choose my wife based on her looks and I was a homeless bum when she met me, in fact our first date I got drunk, puked on the floor and passed out in her bed while she slept on the couch.

Nothing wrong with your opinion, but just like Darwin's evolution it is only a theory. You're statements of finality just make you look stupid....unless this is one of those subtle sarcasm things that I'm missing again, would it kill ya to use a smiley face once in a while?

You really have no clue what you are talking about. Don't try to bring other men down because you are a pussy whipped pansy. Both men and women can be in control in any given situation (depends on the individuals). Stick to donairs, atleast you know something about that subject.
lol, exactly :p

I will point this out to the next guy that tells me he gets laid twice a week for free. Yeah right buddy. Men are so full of it when it comes to this.

The experiment wasn't performed on drunk bar stars. It's not hard to get laid for free as long as you don't have high standards.

Ha

Women only want what they can't have. If you give it to them, they don't want it any more.

Men only want what they can't have. If you give it to them, they don't want it anymore.

Children are needy

Women stick to men that they think they can change.

Men stick to women that they think will never change.

Another one I've read and thought very interesting:

Fool is a man who believes a woman.
Fool is a woman who thinks she can change a man.
