Not Very Impressive

HowieMeeker said:
This IS impressive. What other country in the world would send its entire naval fleet and all of its soldiers, active and reserve, to aid a neighbour.

Pretty impressive. :)
The fact we are able to send our entire naval fleet and all of our soldiers is simply becasue we are not responsible for our own safety. We count on completely the protection of the US.

Funny thing is when the US needed is in PRINCIPLE not financially or with TROOP commitments, just with our support, we chose not to be there.

Actually in the grand scheme of things I think it is actually pathetic.

I apologize to all Americans for every single situation in which Canadian POLITICIANs and citizens forget our place as a tier 2 country in the sphere of world influence, and forget that fact that our freedoms and priviledges are directly related to our proximity to the US and the fact that the US feels the need to protect our giant land mass.

It's not that the US doesn't have resources. As the local paper said on their web site, http://www.nola.com/,
"Despite the city's multiple points of entry, our nation's bureaucrats spent days after last week's hurricane wringing their hands, lamenting the fact that they could neither rescue the city's stranded victims nor bring them food, water and medical supplies.

Meanwhile there were journalists, including some who work for The Times-Picayune, going in and out of the city via the Crescent City Connection. On Thursday morning, that crew saw a caravan of 13 Wal-Mart tractor trailers headed into town to bring food, water and supplies to a dying city.

Television reporters were doing live reports from downtown New Orleans streets. Harry Connick Jr. brought in some aid Thursday, and his efforts were the focus of a "Today" show story Friday morning.

Yet, the people trained to protect our nation, the people whose job it is to quickly bring in aid were absent.

Those who should have been deploying troops were singing a sad song about how our city was impossible to reach."

The US won't ask another country for help because the only help it really needs is to turn the situation over, completely, to another entity, because the people in charge are callously oblivious to the suffering there & criminally incompetent.

It's that the FEMA has been undercut from day 1 of the Bush administration w/ budget cuts & replacing career emergency professionals with political appointees who have only campaign fundraising on their vitas.

So the aid from Canada and Cuba in the form of medical personnel, food, medicine is neither needed or wanted. What's needed is someone to take charge who gives a shit & isn't a total incompetent. And that's something the US -- meaning the Shrub -- will not admit or accept from anywhere else.

So people die.

"They're feeding the people a line of bull, and they are spinning and people are dying," as Nagin said.

I have an idea, why don't you and Mike Hawk make it up to all of the Americans by simply moving there? You obviously don't appreciate Canada so what's keeping you here? Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Actually I am in the right country and I am smart enough to acknowledge that Canada has a lot of our priviledges (abundent social programs, public health care etc) becasue we haven't had to spend money on defense.

I live in a country where I am entitled to an opinion. We get tons of benefit from living ajacent to the US. We are Naive to think we aren't better for it.

I am just curious smackyo what did you watch on TV last night. What was the last Canadian movie you went to.

It is just our hypocratic positions are some what laughable.

I live and work here, because it is where I am from. I am Canadian, but being Canadian doen't mean I need to walk around pretending like I am somehow superior to all things American.

We are better off with them as our happy neighbours, we should be careful what we wish for.

The BEEF industry is fully aware of what happens when they decide they aren't going to be amicable.

Canadians would do well to recognize the strength of the American's protectionist ways. They look out for themselves first, Militarily and Economically.

Don't like it move away. That is a joke Canada is built on the fact that you don't actually need to be a Canadian first to live in CANADA. Just live here you can be what ever you want French - Canadian, Indian - Canadian, Tamal Canadian, Iraqui Canadian. XYZ Canadian.

What is wrong with being an American Candian.

yeah... I read recently that the U.S. has imposed anti 'dumping' duties on Mexican cement, in addition to that ancient fuggen tariff on Canadian lumber imports...All under the so-called 'Free Trade Agreement'.

Both of those duties and tariffs have been deemed illegal under NAFTA, and the U.S. is like, 'Yeah...so? What's your point? We're still gonna do it...'

It's the old boondoggle...spearhead a trilateral protectionist trade agreement, and call it 'free trade' just to fuck with everyone's minds..

and ya know the really hypocritical thing is, the U.S. doesn't even need a NAFTA to do that...we're still gonna sell them our lumber...what the hell else are we gonna do with it? All this window dressing by the americans just really pisses me off...because its just posturing, in a vain attempt to get world opinion on their side. why they think they need that is beyond me...

and the strategy is working...we certainly have world opinion on our side.

What surprises me about all this whine about NAFTA....what you are really saying is you have no control over your own destiny....without the US you are not capable of surviving....

I do not believe that is true....Canada has huge potential.....its biggest problem is many of its citizens (you are a good example) believe they have no control and the US has it all. If you think that....and you act that way...it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

I have said this in many posts.....for Christ sakes shut up and do something....quit your constant whining about how poorly you are treated by the US... If you are not capable of making it without US support then just shut up and take what we hand out to you.

Who's whining now...?

well, that's exactly the attitude I mean...when I say americans are alienating their friend and allies. Somebody says something critical and they're like, 'well, if you were really our friends you'd kiss our ass and do what we say and fight our wars with us and always agree with us and show some gratitude and shut the fuck up and quit whining...'

As for doing something, well we have...on the NAFTA anyway....we've taken these matters to international tribunals, and they have ruled on them (multiple times), and now the ball's basically been thrown back into your court.

It's actually time for you guys ' to do something..' as you put it. But you're not. You're just maintaining these punitive tariffs that collect billions in revenue, and saying, 'yeah, whut's yer fucken problem?'

And before you go off on that 'we're America and you're not' routine, you need to know that at this moment in time, you need us (i.e. canada and mexico) a helluva lot more than we need you.

And ONLY your fucken friends will tell you shit like that.

Yeah? Ya read the papers lately? Ok, ok, tell ya what...don't take my word for it when I say world opinion is agin ya...get a second opinion from somewhere else in the world. Hell, ask another American...

And as for YOUR whining about not having any friends, or more specifically, your rant about your friends abandoning you or not standing by you, (We haven't heard anything else from you mothers for months) let's not forget the milions of $$$ in supplies that canada and mexico ... and EVEN fucking cuba and venezuela and iran...are sending into New Orleans. I myself donated $20 to feed some of those poor buggers living in that stadium. Even your so-called enemies/critics are helping you out.

Ok, ok, ok, so now you're gonna say it's too late, or it's too little, or it's not 'sincere' help, or there's an 'alterior' motive behind it, or you don't like the people giving it, or it 'doesn't count' for some reason. But ya know what?. There are people dying down there, and this ain't a string of pearls or a toaster or a microwave oven that's the wrong colour or size.

You don't send this back...

Yes I am.

And still in AWE of your $20 donation.

Thanks for doing your part superstar.

Actually I am curious, did you chose $20 because you think it is enough, or because you don't think you could afford more 9which we know based on your pooning habit isn't true).

Or becasue spending any more would prevent you from getting an extra session from some RUDDY Street Whore.

Again congradualtions on being a great HUMANITARIAN.

actually ace i got turned on to the show by a friend of mine that is now a school teacher and he has a masters in science aquired from university of toronto. before he told me about the show i didn't know it existed so it must appeal to his level of intelligence as well, besides there is nothing wrong with having a good laugh once in a while.

you got a masters in science from u of t ace? or any schooling for that matter.
as for rocky donating 20 bucks, good on him. how much have you donated ace? more then likely nothing. nothing for him to be embarrassed about in donating that. if every canadian gave 20 then we'd be somewhere so at least as well as i and i'm sure many others have done something. are you on that list buddy 'ol pal?

We'll take Mike, as long as he promises to live in Mississippi and never leave that state.
But in return, you have to take dittman and Luckydog, and make sure that they live in Gimli or Flin Flon and never go near Vancouver.

well, lessee...my lousy twenty bucks fed 12 people for one day...two meals each at an average cost of $1.25 each.

And the beneficiaries of YOUR thoughtfulness? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh..they get wireless RADIO! Well, that's handy....they can sit around listening to Howard Stern.

As for the R.C., well it's nice that somebody's paying their salaries and rent.
