Would Alfa Romeo owners please chime in on their experiences with them, and especially reliability.

Thanks in advance.

I was friends with a guy who had a Romeo. Despite going to school with him for 5 years, I wasn't invited to his wedding but his mechanic was! They were that close. I myself, would like an Italian vehicle but just too much of a money coward to buy one.

They discontinued their 4C sports car in 2020 leaving a 4 door sedan and an SUV as their only offering in North America. I would be questioning if they would be viable at all in 2 years. Clearly their Italian competitors Lamborghini and Maserati are doing much better with full lineups in every category.

Not hating, I drove a 1979 Spider and it was an awesome ride. I had several memorable rides in Canada and the USA with the top down.

Mechanical and rust issues made me unload it far sooner than I wanted to.

Lambo only sells sports cars and an SUV, no sedans. But then it's in a different price category than Alfa.

The Dodge Dart a few years ago was based on the Giulietta, turns out to be a failure in every respect.

Alfa is like Lancia and Fiat. The name and logo are all that remains.

Way back in my far distant past I had a FIAT 124 Sport Coupe, a 1970.5, pretty rare as it was a done up version, huge 4 barrel Weber carb, Anza exhaust system, those 1432CC's really cranked! But digressing, the FIAT really was Fix It Again Tony and a full set of wrenches, drivers, and spark gap/distributor cap tools was in the trunk. Finally gave up on it and got a 73 Alpha Spider and I second ModSquad's note - what a fucking hoot driving that top down. But. Alberta, winter, etc and yeah the rust started in plus the constant tuning/tweaking so I bailed on that too. That was then, and all cars have come a long way since the 70's so a modern Alpha? Might be good!

Great toys nonetheless. IF big IF, but if I were to dabble in that genre again, I would look seriously at the Subaru BRZ or a Miata. Affordable, incredibly fun, reliable etc.

I would like to get a new, fun, sporty, little car. Nothing as radical and pricey as a lambo or ferrari though.
Where I live there are no dealers within 10 hours drive that sell anything that isn't the same old bland crap, so everyone drives a ford, chev, nissan, honda, etc.

I want something different, good handling, good power, but no race car type of power, more just not gutless.
I also want it to be reliable, especially when the dealer is 10 hours away.
I kicked around the idea of an alfa, but that might be a nightmare. Possibly a Cayman then, they seem to be reliable, and up north here rare.
Right now I have 3 Hondas, reliable, but boring. Three years ago I inquired about a Civic R, and have stopped at the nearest Honda dealer a dozen times since, and asked if they can get me one yet. The answer is always no, so I've pretty much given up on getting that. I end up in Vancouver occasionally, so may on my next trip there, swing into a Porsche dealer and ask them about ordering a Cayman.

Can't speak for the AR's reliabiliity, but I gotta say: last year's F1 videos of Kimi & Antonio driving one would sell me on them for their fun-factor, lol!

I've been in the market for trucks for about a year and one thing I've learned from online research - EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE HAS OH-MY-FKN-GOD SO MANY ISSUES (....if you believe only what you read on forums, lol!) So as you might guess, you'll probably ONLY hear the bad-news for the most part. Very rarely, someone pops online to tout the vehicle...then they get jumped on as fan-boyz (sound familiar? sheesh!)

I say - if you have the cash, patience, and a backup vehicle, get it, enjoy the fun, keep the RPM >4000 at ALL times, and don't be surprised with what breaks!
