I bought an air conditioner, which works great, but it has to be ventilated to the outside.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any kind of air conditioner that does not need to be ventilated to the outside, and where could I find one :D

Please.
air cons transform hot to cold , it has to exhaust the heat somewhere in order to give you the cold. exhausting it back into the area that you are taking the heat from obviously does not work. usually a home system has a flexible silver exhaust line or hose similar to a dryer exhaust. if you have a small window that opens , stick it out that and tape it up around the hose. or cut a hole in your glass. but sorry to say , but real aircon must be vented to work.
save money and energy and take it back and get a large stand up fan.

I have a large stand up fan, all it does is push hot air around. I have floor to ceiling windows and I face south west, so imagine the heat, lol

We can fly to the moon, but we can't invent an air conditioner that does not have to be ventilated to the out side.

I'm sure somebody has invented something. I'm hopeful, lol :)

Yep... unfortunately it's true - you can't make cold without giving off heat, which is why the back of your fridge is always hot.

A suggestion for the fan, though - open your window, and point the fan outside. It'll suck up the hot air from inside, and reduce the temperature....

it is equal opposite reaction...an old theory.
even your refridgerator makes hot....to make the cold.
you can buy a material to put on your windows. it is silver reflective on outside and kicks the light back out and you can still see thru it but it slightly darkens it inside. you can use a squeggy and water to put it on. that will bring the temp way way down.
try running the exhaust out the door or window as suggested and fill the cracks.
air con guys are $$$$ but we can work a deal :)
i,ll cool it , and you heat it up after.

I bought my air conditioner from Sears, while it works fine. I don't have the right kind of windows for it, so I can't ventilate it properly.

The Bay told me, maybe an air conditioner might have been invented like that, but they don't know where to find it. Sears and several other places I phoned said impossible. I, however, think if we can fly to the moon, somebody somewhere has to be smart enough to invent one. :D

I love repeat customers. I would have none, if they came over to a sauna.

Like I said in my advertising post, I like to end up a hot, sweaty mess, not end up like one, :p

Two Types of portable air conditioners

There were two sorts of portables last time I checked. The cheaper type has a water tank that has to be emptied when it fills with condensate and has 1 or 2 large hoses that you run to a window.

The better and more expensive sort has a water tank that you fill with water and a smaller hose to the window that sends hot humid air out the window. Perhaps they are all of this sort now. It may be worthwile knowing which sort you are buying.

My new house is pretty sweet it stays cool inside even with +30 outside as long as you keep the windows and doors closed to keep the warm air out. These new houses are built pretty sweet I was going to get central air when I moved in but put it off cause it was late fall when I moved in but went all through last summer and never said to myself once that its friggin hot in my house so i am happy about that.

+1 I ordered a custom kit off the internet. Just entered in all the measurements of the windows I wanted to tint on their site.
I got fairly dark tint. Usually on days like this before the tint, my place would get really hot. Sometimes up to 30c, with all my blinds shut tight. Today it never got beyond 21c. They also block 99.9% of uv rays, so it protects your furniture. It was very easy to install, and quite cheap.

Is there any reason you don't want the warm air to be blown outdoors? I guess maybe it's blowing into your neighbour's window or something, lol.

I surprised that they don't just simply use the warm air to heat up the water tanks.... hmmm... maybe I should patent that idea if it's possible.... lol.

One thing you can do is get those fans which covers the window and have it on both end of your home. You get one fan to blow in and another to blow out, therefore creating some wind current in your place.

Just hook the exhaust hose to the exhaust fan either on your stove or in the bathroom :)

I think I'm going to go with tinting my windows. That sounds like a brilliant suggestion. :)

It is not a matter of not wanting the warm air to be blown outside. It is a matter of my place not having the right kind of windows. They require sliding windows. I have floor to ceiling windows that about half way up, part of the window swings up, so it does not fit properly, so I cant get the room cold enough for long enough. I do not own the place, so I can't do construction, but I think the tint will work perfect. :D

I also want to be able to close the window, so my neighbors can't hear me have sex. :p No need to let them know that they might have a lady of the evening or daytime, lol, in their midst. :)

Not only that (and yes, the laws of thermodynamics mean that it's physically impossible to cool anything down without transferring the heat to something else somehow), but because the mechanisms that we use for air conditioners (or any other machine, for that matter) are not 100% efficient, that means that there will always be some work energy that is wasted (ie. doesn't go towards the purpose of the machine). That wasted energy becomes heat. So that means that if we want to cool something down, we have to transfer the heat from it to something else in the environment, and on top of that we also create some excess heat that gets transferred into the environment. So all of the air conditioners and refrigerators in the world are actually heating up the planet by minuscule amounts at a time.
