Agency rates (newb question)

Hi guys, as someone who moved over from the ol merb (montreal), I got a Q about agency rates. In montreal, normally for the big agencies, you'd see a "base rate" and most SPs are on that rate. And a few SPs are on base rate + 10, + 20, etc. Now in BC, I'm looking through the agencies and there's such a large difference between rates for some of them, some like 200/hr, 300/hr, 400/hr, even 600 or 700, even for the same agency. Not only that, you also see 30 min and 45 min, etc, which I think is also rare in mtl.

What do you guys think is the reason for these differences? More of a fun business/history question I guess.

My guess, it's supply and demand, so to speak... with a dash of "let the lady choose"... Perhaps the agencies run a bit different here, as most of the well-renowned agencies tend to let the lady choose their own rates, and just use the agency as a middle-man to help answer the phone and set appointments.... while I'm sure on the other side of the country the agency is run more like a business, telling how the ladies to conduct themselves as they do business under that agencies banner?... Culture of business is simply different?

As for the rates themselves, depends on who are you talking about? $200/hr, sounds like a run-of-the-mill FOB Asian girl out of Metrotown trying to compete in an already diluted ethnic market while going to college on an international student visa.... $700/hr, sounds like OF model with a lot of online clout, who looks exactly like the Cheerleader Princess who rejected you in High-School and only services VIP yuppie clients on selective days.

Agreed, he danced softly around the topic. But this tends to devolve into complaints eventually and gets shut down.

Hey haha, I'm not complaining about the rates. I was just curious at why you see such a wide range in van but not say in mtl (at least from what I've seen).

I guess your point about the SP setting their own rates here in van make sense, especially if they have their own place and the agency just handles some basic services.
