This guy's blowin' my mind. He plays a 3 1/2 hour marathon match on Monday to advance, then follows that performance by beating No. 8 seed Marcos Baghdatis in a five set, three hour and 48 minute match. At 4-4 in the 5th set, the 21 year old Baghdatis looked like his legs were cramping up on him and kept trying to walk it off inbetween Agassi serves. And Andre looks as fresh as when he started the match. I've never seen anything like this. He wears them down and then buries them. It's gotta suck to lose a game like that. Beaten and broken.
I fuckin' love this guy! And I'm not a tennis fan. Iranians rule!!!

Got to agree with Fuzzy K on this one. Agassi is doing some amazing things. Plus, years ago he was a brat and now he is the crowd favourite. When one hangs around long enough ....

Hard to argue with the above comments. The guy is amazing at his age, still putting it out there. The US Open quarter last year vs Blake was riveting. he has NO CHANCE at winning, but I'd love to see him advance far, the New Yorkers will go crazy!

Wilde, I think you misread Stew's post. It seems pretty obvious to me he meant that Agassi stayed around long enough to finally grow up. He went from being a 20-year-old talented but bratty asshole to what he is now, a respected elder statesman of tennis. In so doing, he erased his bratty past in the eyes of the public.

Jimmy Connors was also a talented 20-year-old asshole who finally grew up.

On the other hand, John McEnroe was a talented 20-year-old asshole who's now just a 47-year-old asshole.

If that's what he meant then I guess I'm the asshat. When I posted my comments, I took what he said to mean that anyone who hanged around long enough could achieve what Agassi has accomplished.

Growing up in the US of A not knowing how to speak Farsi and no mention of pride of being Iranian plus representing the USA in international competitions (Davis Cup and the Olympics).

Iranian, only on his father side. EVen his father is not even Persian origin either. He's Assyrian and Armenian origin.
