I'd appreciate some advice: I'm married like I'm sure a lot of you guys are, and my wife is noticing that I take a good wad of cash out of my bank acct every month and I'm having trouble explaining where it's all going. Of course, you guys know where it's going...
So, any tips on how to hide this hobby of mine better, from the financial end?
(It's like they say, follow the money and...)

Well... the way your wife does it seems to be the smartest way... She takes out small amounts of money (instead of one big withdrawal) and keeps it until she has enough to pay me my $200 per shot (about once every two weeks.) That or I give her a list of things I need and she buys them for me... Or purchases refundable gift certificates and pays me with them... ;)

Do you use a credit card for the airmiles? Stop that, and pay everything in cash. That way, you can "bury your monthly $300 in the other $2000 you spend on gas, groceries, clothes, 'lunch with the boys', etc.

Tell her some guy at work was giving you trouble, so you had to hire the mob to straighten him out.

Then start withdrawing a little at a time and save up your 200-300 that way.

If you go shopping at Costco, you can make your purchases with your debit card. On your bank statement, it will say Costco debit. Then take the item back as you are leaving the store "that you changed your mind" and usually they will give you cash back.

Another way, as someone else suggested, is take up an expensive "hobby". Go to the casino and make your withdrawals from their ATMs in the building. Again, your statement will read XXXX Casino Withdrawal. Depending how much you need to take out, most of the ATMs limit you to a $400 withdrawal at a time. If you want a larger amount use the ATMs in the the Poker Room as they usually have a higher limit than those in the regular section of the casino. Your wife will think you only have a gambling problem instead of both like me:D

I use my Amex. My wife doesn't track that account as i use it for my business expenses. I just make cash withdrawalws from my Amex, have them send electronic statements. No paper no proof

I would avoid doing that as they treat it as a cash advance and charge you interest the minute you take it out at their 19% interest rate! If you are absolutely desperate to do it like this, at least overpay your Amex bill so that you have a credit balance, then you won't be charged interest. Credit card interest will kill you!!

Bonus Checks - keep them for you - tell her you got 1/3 of what you thought, and play with the 3/4 left.

RRSP returns - have a deal with her that you and her get to do what ever you want with them.

Independent Vacations - she gets a girls vacation, you get a boys vacation - but YOU dont go on your vaction, you save your money for hobbying, and live in a fishing hotel eating beans for a week, instead of a luxury hotel, like she will.

Take a 100 cash a week for fun money - but only spend 30. Takes longer but it's easier then getting busted.

The Costco idea is pretty good, except she will ask, what did you buy ? And where is it ?

Christmas is the one time a year that woman dont' tend to ask about money leaving accounts. JUST take out more now then you usually do, and save it.

Buy a vending machine - it's all cash - and never tell her about it.

Start doing cash jobs, and tell her you are working over time. But as we all know, overtime doesn't mean more money on our checks.

Start doing all the accounting yourself, both accounts.

Get a seperate credit card, that is mailed to a P.O box and use it for cash advances. Yes the interest rate is higher, but in the long run it's worth it to not have a looking glass in your accounts. This only works, if you are not planning on any large purchases together as it will show up with a credit check.

STOP implusive spending on stuff, and save it for us girls.

Volunteer to do the grocery shopping for a month or two. When you buy the groceries get cashback from the clerk. Same thing works at Rona, Home Depot and Walmart.

Not that I've done this or anything.........

Get your own damn bank account that she doesnt have access to! Joint bank accounts should only have enough money in them to manage this months bills and whatever spending money you need to give your wife.

My joint account with my wife is for my convenience (easier to give her some cash if she needs it), I dont even pay the bills out of it anymore because she had a tendency of not realizing that cash was for bills.

Shouldnt ever have 'joint' finances with your wife except as needed. Keep control of your money.

You take money from your family account to poon? Shame on you, poor little urchins have to walk to school with no shoes and tattered clothes, the other kids make fun of them. They WILL grow up to be serial killers, y'know that right..?

Anyway, if you are not smart enough to hide the money - which is the easiest part - then FOR SURE you will get caught on a smell, or a hair, some unexplained time OR that damn smug smile on your face. Women notice this stuff, even if YOU don't (and you won't), and you'll slip up sooner or later.

Develop a side business where you can make some cash money, then blow that on your filthy little habits.

- Walk the kids to school, and then sell some 'product' to the grade 6'ers.
- When mama sends you to the store with a $20 for milk, don't give her the change back.
- Or refinance the house, and spend all the cash on hookers.

I like that one - GO BIG OR GO HOME. Well, if you had a home to go to, that is.

Thanks for the excellent tips! Who knows I may wind up doing the groceries more often

BTW it is very clear to me that there are a few people who are deliberate infiltrators with a hidden agenda. Make no mistake, they may seem to "fit in" but when they get their chance they push their agenda like simple-minded drones.
The best thing is to ignore them while being careful not to reveal anything incriminating to them.
