Advice needed - Blackberry or Iphone

Hello fellow perb fans,

Looking for some advice and whether to purchase a blackberry or Iphone.

My primary use would be phone features and email. Not too concerned about initial purchase price but would like to control and keep low (as possible) the monthly service costs.

Currently on the FIDO city plan which gives me unlimited local for flat rate which has been great. This plan is no longer available if I want to upgrade the use and features.

Appreciate any insights you have from your own experience.

SInce you did not mention web browsing, I recommend Blackberry. The iPhone is a novelty phone and lacks many basic features that most cell phones have like copy and paste and SMS forwarding. BTW, I have a 3G iPhone myself.

Blackberry. I recommend the Blackberry Bold. Blackberry's are very reliable, practical and easy to use. The Iphone is a toy, and in my opinion should never be considered when in the market for a business/smart phone.

Personally, I have both a Blackberry Bold and an Iphone. My Iphone is my "going out" phone, and my blackberry is my everyday phone.

the iphone is really hard to type with. I love the feel of the actual qwerty keyboard

I haven't been able to send photos by text or email off of the iphone... however the iphone does take amazing photos. BUT I have another camera for that if i wanted amazing photos.

The only concern I have with the blackberry is the scroll button... feels kind of cheap and feels like it can fall apart with excessive use

I've had both, I currently love my 16gb iPhone. i consider it the best phone I've had. The blackberry frustrated me beyond belief. Iphone is easily updated, plenty of free useful apps. the use of wifi is awesome, 3G is generally quite quick as well. I'll never use a blackberry again. the keyboard can be difficult at first, but it's like any new thing. once learned, its simple

I'm with FIDO as well and stuck to my original plan but had to renew a 3yr contract.

However, check how many FIDO dollars you have because I had over $200 and as a result, got my iPhone FREE!!!

I have both as well.

Blackberry: The actual keypad makes typing MUCH faster so if sending long or numerous emails is a requirement, it's the better option. If you have a MAC as your primary computer don't expect to be able to sync the two for backing up or transferring files. At least that's been my experience and that of my techie friends. They may finally have debugged it though.

iPhone: LOVE it. Not so fond of the touch screen keypad and REALLY hate the predictive text. "Iz" always comes out "I'd" etc etc. BUT the Apps are great. I love that it searches for a wifi connection before connecting to the net.

I have the City Fido plan as well and they kept telling me that they simply could not transfer it to an iPhone but I know someone who works with them and they told me it can be done, but they just don't want to. When I pushed the matter and asked to speak to a manager I was begrudgingly told that yes, they can do it but they have to charge me a system access fee of ~$7/m. OOOOOO a whole $7! Small price to pay to keep the best plan ever.

Just my 1.75 cents. (lowered my rates to reflect the economic situation);)

in search of cell phones?

Well, I had this dilemma in thinking BB or Apple. Both products are very good. www.gsmarena.com is a good site to look and compare both cell phones or any for that matter. It basically, will tell you what they are rated and spec comparisons are done for almost any phone out there.

Secondly, if you need a phone that is unlocked so it can work for any gsm phone line. I think www.timtechs.ca or www.puremobile.ca both canadian companies sell phones unlocked.

I personally, got the Samsung Omnia supposedly, its the popular phone in hong kong and china. Gist, of it all it runs on windows mobile. However, the best thing with it is the memory. It has 16gb internal memory plus I added an external 16gb sd card. So thats 32 GB of mem. Plus, I can watch divx and other things like the 8.1mega pixel cam etc.

I do like the divx feature and it comes with a TV out as well. All in all I liked it. It is a touch phone too.

Anyways, off topic. Test both phones out and track what you do mostly with your phones. Text, email. etc.. at the end of the day you are the one that decides what fits your needs. =)

i have the storm and the iphone both unlocked world phones. The iphone has 10000 apps and so many games its unbelivable and with the new app to dowload videos not using youtube but actual links its a great phone. The storm is a better built phone, the display is kick ass and so is the sound system, its super loud. I like both, too bad they were both 800 bucks, but i really like how easy it is to upload brand new movies on my iphone. I got the wrestler , taken. batman,wanted, harold and kummar 2 plus plus plus plus rock and rolla such a good movie slumdog all the new shit and it looks and sounds awesome. Plus there is a fix for sms forwarding, but you really need to get inot the iphone world to discover its capabilities. www.hackintosh.com

Depends what you're using it for

Personally I prefer the iPhone, but it really depends on what's important to you.

Besides using it as a phone, if you're just texting and emailing then I'd go with the Blackberry. For the other features I'd go with the iPhone.

The iPhone web browsing is far superior, and I also prefer the user interface on the iPhone. If music, videos or games are important then it's a no brainer.

For applications, iPhone is winning in part due to the sheer popularity of it. There are over 17 million iPhones currently active versus 12 million active Blackberry's (all types). Developers go where the numbers are. And there are lots of applications (at pretty decent prices!).

So text and emailing? - Blackberry.
Other stuff? - iPhone.

Some of my iPhone apps:

iPint - For sheer fun / silliness. ALWAYS gets a great laugh from those who haven't seen it before.

G-Park - Uses GPS to record exactly where the heck I parked my car and directs me back to it.

File - Turns my iPhone into a wireless external drive for my computer. Emergency backup storage for all of my key business and personal files. And I can also read them on the go on my iPhone.

FTPOnTheGo - I can make emergency web site changes directly from my phone.

Jaadu VNC - Real power application (the set up is not for the technically faint of heart). I have full wireless remote access to my home Windows computer via my iPhone. The full screen is shrunk to fit, but I can easily zoom in and out, plus completely run my Windows computer remotely using finger screen actions and keyboard, etc, from my phone. People always find that one a real "jaw dropper"...!

Is the iPhone ideal? Of course not. There are lots of things I'd change on it. But when you get into it, some of it's capabilities really are quite amazing...

i got a sweet one its called spoof caller id i can basically call anyone and type whatever phone number i want it to show lol fucking kick ass or nes games for free i have every nes game ever made evaaaaa lol
also has an app for video recording it enables the camera to work as a video recording its pretty sweet, plus all the other apps from rogers for a dolar each, but so so many for free so many apps. I can turn off my gps and back on with a special app in case someone is tracking me hehehehe.

U also have a jailbroken (hacked) iPhone and most people dont.

I found the accuracy of the GPS poor indoors or useless if parked in an underground parking. That's just the nature of GPS. I also believe G-Park didn't get good reviews either.

Sorry Noob888, I really have no idea where you're coming from. You claim the iPhone is only a novelty phone, and then you claim that some of my real power apps (remote control / access of my home Windows computer, etc) are only because I have a jailbroken hacked phone...?

It's a standard iPhone 3G, not jailbroken or hacked, and all the applications were purchased from the standard Canadian iPhone iTunes store.
