Advertisers on Twitter

I admit it... I'm too old for this shit... ;)

I'm having trouble understanding this though. I thought the point of using a site to advertise was so your potential clients could access and see your marketing. But for about the fourth time now, I see an ad on perb that suggests checking out that advertiser's twitter and when I attempt to do so, it's only to be greeted by the following message on that twitter page:

This account's Tweets are protected.

Only confirmed followers have access to @********'s Tweets and complete profile. Click the "Follow" button to send a follow request.
I DO NOT have a twitter account. In general, I have no interest in signing up for a twitter account. I've surfed around on twitter on occasion but for the most part, it just doesn't hold my interest. But if an SP mentions having pics up on a twitter account, of course I'll have a look. And I have enjoyed perusing the ones of ladies with open accounts. However, I won't be signing up for a twitter account just to make a "follow" request to maybe be granted access to someone's marketing material.

By the way, I also admit that I just don't have the patience that I once had and I get frustrated by this type of thing a lot easier and when I'm frustrated, I simply move along to the next option that much quicker.

I apologise for the rant. But like I said, I'm old and I just don't understand this...

I noticed that as well. I do have a personal/business twitter account but im followed by many family and friends who I dont want knowing that im following SP's. A few who advertise on here and twitter used to be open but then recently restricted access to only "followers". I guess it is a better way of getting your # of twitter followers up in number, but I think by doing that the # of actual followers decrease (if im making sense).

Hey MM

I use Twittter quite a bit for communicating with SP's. It's personal, private and fast.

Admittedly, I'm not the most social media knowledgable guy around BUT I have made it work well for me.

Example: I was booking for next week today but required a reference. DM a previous date "hey do you mind . . . . ."

A minute later "of course my love"

Five minutes later a date booked.

It's not always this simple though :p

Aren't twitter and facebook mostly used by people who have no real social life?
So this way they can pretend to have friends?
I use neither.
Who knows maybe someday when I am old, and just sit in my rocking chair all day, I'll join it and try....for now I am too busy actually going out and living life.
It probably won't even still exist when I get to age 65 though.

I noticed you posted this on both forums, and that perhaps it could be directed at me...

So here's my response:

I have to have a protected twitter account, I been have harassed and threatened by a non reputable board owner in Toronto who was constantly taking my tweets and putting them on his site to misinterpret them to people who don't even use twitter and wouldn't know what he was saying was a lie, and it also keeps ladies safe from prying eyes of boarder patrol when we cross into the USA.

We get lots of weirdos trying to DM for free time or tweet dick pics at us as well, and some ladies find it alleviates the concern that their friends in real life will find their SP twitter/facebook account. If it's private and someone does happen to know you in real life but is not really interested, they won't look. It's a way of screening out those undesirables from following you on twitter in an intimate business. Twitter is designed for people who have twitter accounts to follow and interact with those they are interested in. If you're not going to get a twitter account and just want to creep someone's twitter, you can't blame ladies for wanting to keep an extra layer of privacy. Many show their real face, or nude selfies, and touring schedules (again boarder guard concern).

Social media accounts can be found by a lot more people than websites for industries the same person wouldn't generally ever be interested in or think about. So it does bring more concerns when we work in a stigmatized industry and use public social media platforms.
Hey Charlotte

Thanks for your explanation about your Twitter experience. I also have a protected account for similar reasons. Well maybe not as bad as your reasons :p There are stalkers and weirdos in the Twittasphere too I have encountered.?

I follow you and read your posts regularly. It seems you may have a following who don't like to read your FAQ's, your website details or even your advertisement information. Not to minimize your frustrations but I should mention that rarely do people tune into the fine details and in my profession, I need to spoon feed them daily. Such is life, right?

I noticed you posted this on both forums, and that perhaps it could be directed at me...
I did post this on the two local industry related forums upon which I am a member but it was not "directed" at you. You are not the first lady whose twitter account I noticed was private nor were you the last. Yours may have been one of the four that drew my attention to this issue... maybe... :p ;) but no... I didn't intend this as a confrontational post "directed" at you or anyone else.

It was simply exactly as I said. I just don't understand this. But I am an older guy and to my way of thinking, if it's included in an ad, I consider it a part of an advertiser's greater marketing strategy, so it seems counter intuitive to me that it then be inaccessible to a potential client. I can't speak to the motivations or possible ulterior motives of those who might "creep" a lady's twitter. I can only speak for myself and say that if I see an ad posted by a lady who then piques my interest or curiosity, I will attempt to explore any of those further marketing materials to investigate whether or not this might indeed be someone with whom I'd be interested in spending time.

Although, in the past, I was one of those clients who, in the course of doing my due dilligence and research, would actually read through the web site of a lady in whom I might be interested in it's entirety and in those days be praised by said ladies for taking the time to do so, thereby knowing their boundaries and points of etiquette when finding myself in their company. Some of them even used to refer to that as being respectful. :D

I certainly would never begrudge any lady her right to perceived increased discretion and "layers of privacy" but perhaps if an SP's twitter is private and intended "only for followers" this could be noted in a publicly posted ad so those of us who do not have a twitter account will know not to bother attempting to search out a page that we won't be able to "creep" anyway. And yeah... I'm not gonna lie... the lure of potential nude selfies has gotten me to hunt down some of the publicly accessible SP twitter pages which I've "creeped" in the past :D

I totally respect any SP's right to keep her Twitter feed private. If you need to know or see anything about her, it'll be on her website.

And Twitter's not that hard to figure out and is actually fun and informative, whatever your interest, as uncool as that may sound.

I include it in my ads, so that gents who are totally new to the industry and unsure of how to be sure a lady is real and not bait and switch that I am in fact real, as I took the time to make a Twitter, Instagram and website. My instagram is not locked and just contains photos for marketing, but most people tend to use Twitter and as such I have had to be careful about who can see what I post in terms of stalkers/harassers and US border patrol when I cross the border. I understand you may wonder why why why? But in my case, I have precise reasons for everything I do in my business, and to me they are good ones and that's all that matters.

I will say I think it is ridiculous to expect an SP to make a note that their Twitter is private in their ad, when it's easy to see from clicking the link that it is so. I am not trying to recruit for Twitter anywhere, I only include it just the same as my website, or email address. I'm not the type of girl to use any sort of method like "Hey boys PLEASE follow me on Twitter for lots of sexy nudes". It's not my style. I explained in this thread my many reasons why and I think that should be sufficient and it's really not a big deal that some of us have locked accounts but mention our twitter handle anyway. I'm personally not comfortable being harassed nor having the entire world be privy to my live location/racey selfies/personal thoughts 24/7. No matter what we do on Twitter, it seems it always ends up on a review board as a complaint. This time it's the absence of knowing what we're doing on Twitter! lol To enjoy the full perks of Twitter, one must have an account.
You and I will have to agree to disagree on the nature of the inclusion of a disclaimer in an ad. And this may be nitpicking but many of the twitter accounts being referenced in ads are not necessarily "linked". Just noted in the ad with the twitter handle so... yeah, it's just a handful of steps to hunt it down only to get there and find it's private. Fair enough on your reasons for making it private but if I know that ahead of time, I won't waste my time seeking it out. And the reason I'm lamenting this, again, is because of the increased frequency that it's happening.

That's hilarious... "May be directed at me" haha I'm going to give you a bit of credit and assume you aren't that passive aggressive and are just asking a question, so I'll answer lol. I have an open account. Sometimes there are weird stalkers so I close it temporarily, but mainly the point of a lady having an account is to reach a broader audience. I'm going to assume the real reason is because a lot of ladies live these secret double lives. To me any "friend" I had that would no longer be my friend if they knew about my life is no friend worth having. If my mom didn't want to love me because of my job... Well what kind of bs would that be? Most ppl don't give the ppl in their lives enough credit, and assume their reaction would be negative. I'm guessing because they may have negative feelings about their work themselves. Me, I love what I do, and I think it's a noble profession. I love educating people and have changed the views of many. That's what I'm here for.

It all depends
I see Twitter and Instagram and the like a great platform to build exposure and get your services out there. It's basically free advertising really. A lot of "fitness models" on Instagram garner millions of followers and start peddling their workout routines relentlessly. Escorts could do something like this but also none have because of "dick pics" and the like.

I gave an insta you can look up, but I know longer use it. Not because of dick pics, but because of the haters that flag everything you post. It's a hassle. That's why most SP's prefer Twitter. There's nothing that's "not allowed" in the Twitterverse

Twitter is simple and easy to use to get quick information. It's basic, but it gets the job done. I've only been on it for a few days, but it's been fun so far.
